Re: Christmas themed titles?
Definitely Christmas, as the reyes magos (the magic kings) are very important in xmas in Spain and most central and south american countries (not sure if also in eastern europe) where children get their xmas gifts from them (not Santa) in the night of 5th january. We know about them and celebrate t...

New games from Mojon Twins: Fase Bonus The Game
You probably know Mojon Twins. They released dozens of games like they were some kind of factory. Each of them separately is quite nice. But try playing several of them one after another and you'll get a strong feeling of deja vu, a feeling that you are actually playing the same game ;) So they did ...

Re: Yie Ar Kung Fu
Yes, it's great. Great graphics, great sounds, great gameplay. Unfortunately second part (yes, it exists for Spectrum) is total crap. You may not know that there are 48kB and 128kB version of this game and they differ. IT's not only AY music but also some changes in gameplay in 128kb version. Actual...

Re: Woot! ZXMAS Tape Magazine 2017
Please people, don't remove adult titles from Spectrum Computing. 99% of us are old men in 30s, 40s and 50s and we all know how a naked human body looks like ;) If some lost kid would come here then it would be enough to put some warning, maybe require clicking that he accepts watching and downloadi...

Re: Woot! ZXMAS Tape Magazine 2017
I disagree that 2017 has been a stinker of a year for the Speccy. It was a mixed bag. The bad: dirty bad fight around Vega projects and quite recently several marketing lies reaveled. Community deeply split into followers and haters. Old WOS, may now better called World of Lee going down with each ...

I don't remember ever, since 2003 when I started using Internet and browsing Spectrum news that anybody produced so much and so good quality loading screens for Spectrum games. What else can I say, waiting for even more

Old unknown game found: GUP
A new-old game is discovered :) A man called Jon Burton, who is currently an active modern games developer decided to share his first game with world. It was written in 80s when Jon was just 14-15. The game is called GUP and here's the author's Youtube video: [youtube]https://youtu.be/wQGuH7tQuBs[/y...

Re: Q*Box, by ThePope (3D game with AGD)
You have to pick objects in order, first 10, 20, and so on And when collect them all, go to some pyramid shaped object to finish the level. I played it for the moment. Interesting game and probably with good difficulty. Unfortunately it's just me who is crap at isometric games. From time to time Ig...

Re: 'Dixel' scrolling... Ghosts 'n' Goblins
A related question, though, now that I *think* I'm beginning to understand this is... why 16x16 blocks 16 x 16 pixels is a good compromise. 32x32 would be too big in most cases as you say although there are games that use it - as an example I can give Robocop 3, have a look on graphical representat...

Re: Knight Hero
Thanks for it. I played it for about 5 minutes to see what it is like. I like the graphics. Simple but stylish. In 128 kb there is also quite a lot of nice music. I recognized some old classic Russian tune :) The gameplay is unfortunately difficult. Colision detection is very unforgiving, you are fa...

I read it. Read it again. And read it again. And I still don't really geddit. Okay. I guess I'll need to write a proper long post with pictures about it :) Especially as people showed interest in other posts. Actually I disassembled engine of Stormlord some time ago and have my own game, about 30% ...

Re: 'Dixel' scrolling... Ghosts 'n' Goblins
A good example of game with efficient scroll engine is Stormlord . It's better engine than Ghosts'n'Goblins or Cobra as it allows much more variety of graphics. I made a post about it on old WOS but i may repeat it here. So the scroll is by 2 pixels and framerate is 25 fps. you have 16x16 pixel tile...

Re: ZXSpin Assembler
The problem is this line: ld hl,21+15*256 It loads HL with 9216 = 0,36 which is an impossible coord. Yes, now I remember old post at WOS about it. Spin doesn't follow standard math order of calculations. You know - multiplication first, addition later. Instead it goes just from left to right: 21+15...

I don't remember seeing this discussion before
Okay, so let's talk about classic Spanish games from the 80ties. Beautiful looking, with lots of colour but difficult as hell.
Do you have any favourite one?

Re: Poll:The Odin big four
For me they all are games that you weren't supposed to ever complete. Walk, enjoy the experience, sometimes see something not seen before but to play it properly you would have to map them. And I was never patient enough to do it in my teens. As for the poll I choose Robin of the Wood, it had a grea...
