Re: Several missing titles (2024)

Not sure how long titles take to appear on the database, but this came out a week or so ago and isn't on there yet: Magicland Dizzy Classic+ Edition https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4s5yWJtfig Also, this version of Moon Ranger isn't listed and I did the music :D https://www.indieretronews.com/2021/1...

Re: ZX Nightmares

Wizwords Oh, when I first saw the word "book" I assumed it was just black and white text inside. I can now see it's something far more exciting: full-colour and graphical; really quite beautiful. This is way more awesome than I'd first imagined when I heard "book". So, when you'...

Re: New Game Creator

One thing I loved about your vid is how you can edit sprites and see the room update in real time. This strongly appeals to me. I like an "immediate" interface where there are no barriers slowing down the creative process. In fact, I like the idea of building the game graphically from with...

Re: Treasure Island and the perils of software piracy

A somewhat creaky title when compared with its superior contemporary Robin of the Wood, Treasure Island was still easily the best of the 10 bundled games in my 1986 Speccy starter pack and the one I played most. I even found myself mapping it out on paper. Q) Are Al's reviews entertaining? A) They A...

This is so evocative of the original arcade machine, in my mind I can see the red joystick below the screen.

Re: New Game Creator

Absolutely fantastic! Thanks so much for doing this! AGD is great, but when making a game it's good to have options, to fit your style or project. I'd like to take the plunge someday and make a game, so it will be interesting to see what the options are. I'm not sure if AGD can do 'big' sprites but ...

Re: Introduce yourself!

Cheez26 I'd be curious to know how you "discovered" the Speccy over there in the US? Just random YouTube videos or something? Also what kind of games background have you had outside the 8-bit world? Do you have a platform of choice? Also, just a heads-up that this is a very friendly place...

Beeper SFX with AY music is fairly standard and seems to be the only system you can use in AGD.

A very warm welcome to the forum, Chelsea!

It's great to have someone so young here. Also great to have friends from farther afield, given how "European" the Speccy community is. This forum is also very male - perhaps you can help us balance the demographic?

In case anyone wasn't aware, Monty On The Run was covered on the Spectrum long ago in a demo by the brilliant Frantisek Fuka, it can be heard here.

Re: Blasphemy! Your favourite C64 SID chiptunes...

Awesome thread! Totally agree with the OP, and what an excellent selection of tracks. I'm not personally a fan of how the SID chip sounds but you can't argue it was an excellent sound chip and there were so many great tunes on that system which sadly never came to the Speccy. Fear not though - all t...

Awesome game idea. I am truly nostalgic for this style of operating system, back when an OS had a small, solid code and never crashed. I'd happily switch back to something like this if I could.

For what it's worth here are my own feelings about this… You might call me an "upcoming" AY musician. I've got my music in a couple of games already, plus 7 more in development, plus I'm hoping to become extremely prolific in the future, with a large amount of music already lined up that I...

Such a talent. No one here could doubt that Mr Thorpe was responsible for many of the very best and most memorable Spectrum title screens of the 80s. One might even say we've lost the "grandfather of Spectrum art". Certainly, his work touched all our lives in one way or another and we pay ...

Totally awesome and highly impressive! You've added a nice new string in the Speccy's bow. And 4px horizontal scrolling is fantastic, given that many games scroll 8 pixels in all directions (and look fine). :dance If you ever need any AY music then I'm happy to help. The only thing that confused me ...
