Re: Be careful - image flipping won'r protect you!
A lot of "sampled" content from 80s games and music was granted a free pass because computer (and sampling) technology back then was still new, and laws surrounding it weren't fully formed. On the other hand, just plain copying someone else's paining like this without giving credit has nev...

Re: New Game Creator
There is nothing specific on the collision objects that the editor can use to determine that they are in fact objects used to transition to another room, that is up to the game creator. Paul, thanks so much for taking the time to respond and explain this stuff to me, that makes sense. I know you we...

Re: New Game Creator
Not necessarily, think about things like the pipes in Super Mario - they don't actually make sense spatially but feel very logical. Then there's Pseudo-3D arrangements like Tir Na Nog or Wonderland Dizzy, where you can go into the screen. Even something like Sonic the Hedgehog or Earthbound, which ...

Re: New Game Creator
In the Rooms editor, there isn't really a concept of the spatial relationship of the current room, as it might exist in multiple locations in the map. I see what you're saying, a "room" is basically just like a "big tile" that can be re-used all over a map. But I do think you ne...

Re: Escape from EXODRON
The reason I don't see this guy as some kind of modern "Harry S. Price" (rip-off merchant) is that it's a free game, and in this day and age, there's no way he could have ever expected to get away with such audacious plagarism without anyone noticing. So it surely has to be a case of ignor...

Re: New Game Creator
Regarding the UI layout, I totally appreciate that it's a work in progress and windows/panels haven't settled in place yet. Flexibility is key, I don't want to get into a position where the games created by the tool all look and feel the same. absolutely! The program should automatically take ...

Re: New Game Creator
Just a few more quick thoughts, mostly minor issues… (Note that I am still a bit ignorant about some of these issues and how stuff will work. Hopefully my ignorance will be useful in highlighting possible points of confusion.) Objects in a room 1. For the sake of clarity, on the room tab, I'd like t...

Still hard to believe it's not Spy vs Spy. The split-screen concept is reminding me of the previous game, Deactivators.

Re: New Game Creator
Hello Paul, and thanks for the awesome video update! This is looking fantastic and I'm getting very excited about this program. Love its simplicity. There's no technical jargon which I don't understand, and everything is nice and graphical and immediate. Fantastic. (I really like you as well!) :-) J...

Re: Wednesday 3 am quiz: Software houses by street view building
Great collection of images. Though I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to "guess" these if we don't already happen to know. Personally, I'd rather be given a list of the 9 answers so I can try and fit the buildings to the company based on style/scale.

Re: Escape from EXODRON
I don't think the deleted the comments are a "cover-up", I just think the author heard the complaints, tried to do the right thing, updated the release, and cleaned up the outdated comments for a fresh start. I'd probably have done the same thing myself. His lack of communication is probab...

Re: Lemmings on the Next
I love Lemmings. Love Tim Wright's awesome soundtrack (he also did the music for Oh No!). Just in case anyone's interested, I've been working on content for Spectrum Lemmings. I made a colour version of the logo. I made AY sound effects to emulate the Amiga sound effects (the button press sounds, et...

Re: Escape from EXODRON
There has to be something just a little weird about anyone who chooses to make games for a computer that came out 42 years ago. We're all a little quirky, to say the least.

Re: How much of a 48k game is graphics? How much is code?
Thanks for the responses chaps, it's fascinating! I have another question… I'm being told here by some that programmers don't want limits on their code size - the more space the better, ideally. Now that's something I personally agree with. I don't see anything "fun" about finding I've hit...
