I love the fat cat at the bottom @Lethargeek! Is that a loading screen from a game or just art?

also even the standard existing spectrum palette could be improved a bit with uneven brightness for different colors: https://i.servimg.com/u/f69/19/84/49/23/cmp0tx10.png https://i.servimg.com/u/f69/19/84/49/23/cmp1in10.png https://i.servimg.com/u/f69/19/84/49/23/cmp2ts10.png https://i.servimg.com/u...

Re: C64 Standard Bitmap Mode (320 x 200)

You missed the point. No. But my exact point was that, when a general purpose computer can only have a very small fixed palette, it works much better to chose a wide variety of colors spread over the color spectrum, regardless of what specific colors were chosen. And that was exactly what i disagre...

Re: C64 Standard Bitmap Mode (320 x 200)

Look here: https://lospec.com/palette-list IMHO: When you browse the palette list, you quickly realize that universal 16 color palette is rather impossible. I see there some are much better than the others to represent the real world in games and pixel art instead of "covering the color spectrum qu...

Re: What game would you like converted to the Next?

Join meeee! It’s its palette that gives the Spectrum it’s identity. ... I think you actually nailed it, on how to defined the essence or identity of the Spectrum. How about people with B&W TVs or wrong video connections (quite common in the East)? So i don't think it's about the colors but rather h...

Re: What game would you like converted to the Next?

My I respectfully suggest we keep this topic to games you'd like converted to the Next and perhaps move the semi-religious war on the Next itself to another thread? I'd love to a Next re-implementation of Dandy / Gauntlet on the Next. We should have a speed and tilemode to really let the gameplay a...

Re: What game would you like converted to the Next?

Sinclair was depending on a brand new technology to make its ULAs (programmable logic) which allowed the cost reductions necessary to make an inexpensive computer. The capacity of these early devices would limit how much integration you could achieve. Other competitors like Commodore and Atari made...

Re: What game would you like converted to the Next?

a new spectrum would have had to attack colour clash and limited colours. Those limitations were a function of 1982 costs and technology and would not reflect anything new or competitive made in 1990+. Cost - yes, technology - no. Dozens of colors in home computer is late 70s, hw sprites is late 70...

Re: What game would you like converted to the Next?

This is what games look like when you eliminate the colour clash. That is the quintessential difference between the 16-bit era and the 8-bit era. But for some people the important question is how it is being achieved It is up to the programmer to take it in the direction he wants to, whether that b...

Re: ZX ULAX emulator

Batty looks great! Just enough colour to lift the sprites/score off of the background. TBH i felt a bit lazy (again) and just assigned same colors for almost everything :) while metallic bluish seemed right for the most objects, maybe bonuses might look better different so if someone feels like add...
