Hah, indeed, playing it should be included into a Citizen Test, voting rights, or some such

Re: Which has more games... Spectrum or C64?
This is a rather tricky question, but the short answer always will be "C64". My usual quick'n dirty metric is looking at the Gamebase collections, since they're very accurate and adhere to 1G1R principle. The latest one for the ZX (v5 by Manguan) counts 15200 and GBC v17 has 28500 entries....

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?
I guess one reason it didn't have a 'proper' 3D FPS is because of the control method. You need one for movement of the person and one for the directions. Without a mouse, I can't see how this would work. Nah, mouse was only needed for later, fully 3d fps games which had freelook, starting with Quak...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?
I'd insist that flight sims, and also assorted 90-degrees games don't really qualify as they're different genres (though some borderline cases like Zig Zag could maybe be called "proto" fps). Catch 23 (and Cholo too) looks amazing, can't believe I've never heard of it before - and that it'...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?
I think it's rather important to define an "fps" as having a smooth 360 degrees freedom of movement in some sort of corridor-based environment. Otherwise the list of games which clearly don't qualify (various dungeon crawlers, sims, or even Op Wolf-likes) will be endless. On the ZX, I gues...

Re: Games you played the most with friends?
Me and my best friend (R.I.P Pusin) were both broke and before we could finally afford our Spectrums we would haunt one sailor-dad (ie rich) dude who had a +2, which in itself was a status symbol. We went there at least a few times a week but, strangely, I don't recall playing any multiplayer games....

Re: Hidden message in Predator
I know you can "bodge" something (2nd language here) but I've never heard that used to describe a person(s). Cute. Especially considering its origin is from wood-dwelling chair makers (probably a rough lot), so it's a clever way to poke fun at fellow coders.

Re: Any CPC Wiki forum users?
Thank you! PM sent. I'm not terribly active on that forum but like to have a look from time to time, and mostly I'm just curious why this refuses to work. My guess would be it's something a bit deeper in the interwebs and perhaps outside of Gryzor's jurisdiction. Eg flagging connections from Asia as...

Re: ZX Spectrum Top 100 games collection (feat. 274 titles)
Thank you. I actually did look at the index pages of these issues but somehow managed to miss the lists. I blame the Nineties web design ;) I must say that Crash list is even more WTF than Stu's YS one. If you look at the top 30 it's all about action games and Dizzy, with some rare outliers such as ...

Re: ZX Spectrum Top 100 games collection (feat. 274 titles)
I look at Crash's Top 100 list, but it's only 50-1. Am I missing something here or is it really only top 50? Well the article says "the ultimate chart of your all-time fave 50 Speccy games" so I guess it is...just wonder why they called it that, or is there a real Crash Top 100 out there s...

I think 3D Seiddab Attack from Hewson is quite interesting (at least for 1984).

"Cleaner" - graphics problem
There's a game called Cleaner: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/2 ... um/Cleaner
When I tried to run it (emulators & FPGA) , the gfx is displayed as capital letters. But the screenshots show normal graphics.

Re: PIMP MY SPECCY! Pick your ultimate ZX Spectrum set up
I dunno, if I had unlimited cash I'd probably buy a Commie + floppy drive (or Amiga, depending on the year) :D Seriously though, it'd be rather mundane: -Spectrum +3, for the FDD &, more importantly RGB -a decent tape deck -a decent pair of joysticks, probably CompPro or similar -and I'd splash ...

Re: Goodbye,Z80
Kudos to TechSpot for turning it into a news item...but deary me, they really could name drop the ZX or CPC, instead of just saying it's been used in "several home computers". Of course, the consoles get a proper mention, even the silly SG-1000. The famous Yankee Bias strikes again ;) http...

Re: Any CPC Wiki forum users?
@akeley The CPC forum is probably stealthily monitoring your general internet usage and what you are writing, and if you are praising the Speccy too much then you'll be considered a Speccy scumbag (owner of the stupid colour-clashing calculator that scarred the CPC with its very existence as it led...

Re: Something I noticed about Renegade 3
Not sure I'd want to take a trip into the mind of someone that rates it above a 6 though! I'm pretty sure I've said it before, but for me it's one of these games which get dumped on so much mainly because of the brilliance of the prequels (and total change of vibe/scene). If it came out as an off-b...

ZX Spectrum on Ares (multi-format emulator)
https://ares-emu.net/ I've stumbled on Ares recently, when looking for a good N64 emulator, and it seems to be a pretty nifty multi-system emu. Think Retroarch but without the bloat. Of course it also means it misses some functionality, but is an interesting alternative nonetheless. I saw they also ...

Re: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever
Sure, he's not the world's worst character or anything, but number three in the entire history of video games ? Ah, this point I can totally agree with. Somewhere in the Top 50, maybe, but no way he should be #3. I was more refering to the idea that these are "blank slate" characters...we...
