Re: Something I noticed about Renegade 3
Not sure I'd want to take a trip into the mind of someone that rates it above a 6 though! I'm pretty sure I've said it before, but for me it's one of these games which get dumped on so much mainly because of the brilliance of the prequels (and total change of vibe/scene). If it came out as an off-b...

ZX Spectrum on Ares (multi-format emulator)
https://ares-emu.net/ I've stumbled on Ares recently, when looking for a good N64 emulator, and it seems to be a pretty nifty multi-system emu. Think Retroarch but without the bloat. Of course it also means it misses some functionality, but is an interesting alternative nonetheless. I saw they also ...

Re: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever
Sure, he's not the world's worst character or anything, but number three in the entire history of video games ? Ah, this point I can totally agree with. Somewhere in the Top 50, maybe, but no way he should be #3. I was more refering to the idea that these are "blank slate" characters...we...

Re: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever
The one I'm most surprised by is Agent 47 in third place. I've enjoyed some of the games in the series but the character is about as much of a blank slate player avatar as they come. It's been also said about Master Chief earlier, but tbh I'm not sure where does this notion come from. Both these ch...

Re: Most iconic ZX Spectrum game characters?
Secondary: the head-kicking imp from Barbarian. Definitely more famous than the warriors and pixel Maria. Thinking about those is a bit more fun for me than counting the big shots ;) Though that nice sprite gfx poster certainly helps. How could I forget about Renegade? Does he have a name, actually?...

Re: Question about 48K composite mod
Thinking about it now, could it be the socket voltage problem? I'm in Taiwan, which has 110V – 120V / 60Hz standard. Do I need some sort of step-up converter? And, have I possibly damaged my ZX by plugging it in? (this was done using just a simple travel plug adapter). This seems blindingly obvious ...

Most iconic ZX Spectrum game characters?
There seem to be a lot of grumbling, "we wuz robbed" vibes, and even bar-spitted suggestions in that other thread , so I thought maybe we could just settle it all here? What really are the Sinclair heroes? (and jesters, they can be iconic too) I guess serious replies would include -Horace ...

Re: Question about 48K composite mod
Thanks for the speedy (7 min!) reply @1024MAK.
Reason I'm asking is that I took one of my 48k machines to another side of the world, where I mostly live, and am trying to connect it to a PVM monitor (via Composite) - and it's not working. So I thought maybe I took the RF model by mistake.

Amazing, seems they are going for the "serious" vibe, so sorely lacking with HPL-based material these days.

Question about 48K composite mod
Hi guys, could you help me out here? I just wonder if this machine has or hasn't the composite mod done? https://i.postimg.cc/7CDV4nF7/IMG-20240406-194141.jpg , https://i.postimg.cc/ZB5xBKK5/IMG-20240406-194232.jpg , https://i.postimg.cc/Ny4xjrtn/IMG-20240406-194248.jpg , https://i.postimg.cc/DJpdqk...

Re: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever
Then again you probably couldn't remember how gigantic the Nintendo franchises were years ago. [...] You do seem to fit the demographics of the people who were asked, as there were many character on this list from the last 5 years. These are some amusing assumptions. Do you really think there are m...

Re: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever
I wouldn't say that. Switch is on its way to be the best selling console of all time and Nintendo's main games are still bestsellers, with the likes of Breath of The Wild getting 10/10s all round to boot.

Re: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever
Was discussing this yesterday with other members of my local computer club. That list is insanely wrong. Lara Croft is certainly deserving of a place on a list of iconic videogame characters, but how is she above Pac-Man, Mario, and Sonic? How are Donkey Kong and Miner Willy not on the list at all?...

Re: ZX Spectrum Top 100 games collection (feat. 274 titles)
A new release - v1.1 - is available now. This update adds the Top 100 Text Adventure list/games from WoS , and SpectrumComputing's Top 100 list (plus 9 new game files). The hdd image has also been updated, though given that some of the games refuse to work this way (because it's limited to tap/snaps...

High Score Table tales
Some games have high score tables, and some of these tables have intriguing/funny/silly entries. I think about making this topic every time I see an amusing HST, then promptly forget about it - so now my only example is a somewhat mild Saboteur. Who are "The Cat", "Skarface" or &...

Re: DenOfGeek : The games that defined the Spectrum
Not minor by any means, but there's a chasm between us hardcore Speccy fans still using the platform to this day, and what the mass market of Speccy owners were doing back in the day. The reality is that most Speccy users were there for Robocop, Batman, Out Run, Platoon, Match Day, etc. I witnessed...

Re: DenOfGeek : The games that defined the Spectrum
So, wait, games like Chaos (plus all the other fare from JG), Stonkers, Nether Earth, Vulcan, or Lords Of Midnight are routinely ranked as pioneering and high on best-of lists, and yet the genre is supposed to be "minor" at the same time? As for removing Chaos I could sort of agree, I thin...

Re: Realms of Antiquity TI-99/4a
I don't see any specific licence details in the docs. The game's author is a very "visible" person though. He is active on many forums and the game's developement was well documented and publicized. I doubt very much that he pulled a shady move and used the emulator without its author's pe...

Re: Realms of Antiquity TI-99/4a
Thank you, you;re right, it's TI files wrapped in an emulator. I didn't read the page properly (sigh). Got it now, just trying to make it run on MiSTer's TI core is proving a bit tricky. This micro requires a lot of rom juggling involved in order to get any extensions going.

Re: Realms of Antiquity TI-99/4a
It's a great CRPG. I see it's on sale for PC, which is nice, but I'd rather have the TI version. His link to the shop site seems to be broken though.
