The behaviour you described is normal. At the end of part 1 you have to load again the game and select part 2, as the game is too large for the memory of the C64 (and the 48K Spectrum). I added a small delay (3 to 4 s) at the beginning of the game (in Silk Dust). That will not add an unreasonable length to wait, but will allow to show the splash screen.

I am currently playing queen's footsteps on zx and c64 for some reason. Great atmosphere and sense of world. I'm terribe at these games though. I'm glad you like it! It turned out that I was using wrong compile options. Now the +3 version can load and save on the disk
