Re: Forum ranks poll
1) And after a long and perilous journey, ZX Spectrum +2 becomes ZX Spectrum +2A, whereupon a lot of stuff stops working. 2) 3elitist5me. (These are sorta an obvious choice really). 3) It's funky and the last rank is Bugaboo. What else can you ask for? Idk who is mister Microbot though. Berk is I th...

Re: Main logo link when in forum
Maybe the link in the logo should go to a new page that is neither the web site home page or the forum home page, but instead is a page which has (currently) two big, easy to see (and use) links, which at the moment will be to the web site home page and to the forum home page. This is normally wher...

Re: Screenshots in the archive - suggestion
Wait - ignore me. It's Windows 10's 'scaling for high resolution screens' being rubbish as usual. If I turn it off everything looks peachy. Thanks, Microsoft. WinXP and Firefox here, and I think I'm getting the same problem (?). http://preview.ibb.co/dU5ENm/Untitled_1.jpg Edit: OK, I might have mis...

Re: My projects
Okay, I was fooled by these XOR. I use first AND for mask and later OR for sprite. Yes, this is needed in order to use the same tables for both the sprite/mask data. Here, the masks aren't stored in an 'inverted' format, as is usually the norm, but instead have the same 'polarity' as the sprite dat...

Re: My projects
Thanks Hikaru for this code. I'm already using in some my later games tables of shifted bytes + table of mirrored bytes. Of course not all my games, but for example in Janosik and my new game to appear in December. I actually started from very lame code and improved with each game. Just tell me as ...

Re: Aline and CATS Mint
That's right, I forgot the 5/8. About the crash, does this happen when you're moving the camera left from the start (and then back) maybe? Or very far to the right? In these cases it's normal, and happens because there is no limiter to going left/right, so it just goes outside the map into (probably...

Re: Horizontal scrolling solutions #1457
Where are my 50FPS full screen scrollers with loads of fully unrolled data-as-code (think Amstrad CPC) masked sprites taking advantage of the whole available 128K extra memory? Where are the '25 FPS and less screen', Cobra-like (or maybe even omni-directional, same thing more or less) games in full...

Re: Horizontal scrolling solutions #1457
Because that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what's possible at present as you might have heard . Wow, hadn't heard about that yet :o Congratulations, excellent work. Thank you. I owe much to the good people in the WoS +2A/+3 floating bus 'research' thread . Without that effort (and the ...

Re: Horizontal scrolling solutions #1457
As an aside, the reason I personally find the subject of scrolling interesting is because I know for a fact it's something the Speccy can do quite well - maybe C64\NES level, with just a bit of exaggeration - and that we're not quite there yet in terms of existing works. Not sure where you expect m...

Re: Horizontal scrolling solutions #1457
It sounds so easy! I'll need to set a full day aside after a good night's sleep before I dare attempt it again. Well, I mostly mean that it's essentially the same concept. A bit like going from an one-dimensional array to a two-dimensional one. (Yes, more work) An advantage of the way I mention is ...

In actual fact, I dislike the word troll. In fact, I dislike any negative label that people use against others. I most certainly do not consider you to be a troll. And I never intend to post 'nasty unhelpful posts', and I don't believe I have done so. However, it is clear that we disagree on variou...

Re: Horizontal scrolling solutions #1457
Well, yes. Expand that 'horizontally' to account for individual tiles within the rows as well, and you will get the R-Type method (Zynaps is only marginally similar). As an aside, the reason I personally find the subject of scrolling interesting is because I know for a fact it's something the Speccy...

Re: Forum Ranks
Anyway, I agree with Vampyre's suggestion of Elite pilot ratings. Me too! It's an easily recognizable list, that better fits this purpose since anyone can easily distinguish which names have higher ranking than others. Although this game was originally created for another machine, it's probably eve...

@ 1024MAK, interesting. I can't seem to I remember a single time you spoke up against the many injustices happening over at WoS, not when people were banned for no reason nor explanation, not when they were pointed the door at a slightest hint of disagreement, the silent treatment and censorship, th...

Well, personally I'm just glad the people at SC have put the final missing piece in. It's probably OK to covertly hope 'dat old WoS spirit' will live on in the end.

Re: My projects
The problem with beatemups is that they require a fast engine and a lot of memory for sprites. Sprites needs to be big and each actions requires a lot of frames to look nice. Needless to say it requires a good artist to draw them. I'm 90% programmer, 10% artist and I really struggled with these fra...

I'd suggest to maybe do this later as needed when there are more topics. Personally I quite like the current clear and concise look of the forums, uncluttered by a hundred million unused sections.

Re: Edge Grinder for the Spectrum
Rotate on the screen. The Zynaps and R-Type scroller. Scroll the blocks on the screen, not the empty space. no need to move a buffer to the screen. Huge time saving and probably the best way to do it, the small downside is that background interaction with sprites sometimes looks a bit odd. Trouble ...

Aline and CATS Mint
Aline: this is a somewhat-new synchronization method that allows to use multicolor for basically anything, with very few restrictions. You can read about it here . CATS Mint is a 8x2 multicolor scrolling engine using this technology. You can see a video of it in action here , or download a TAP here ...
