Good news, everyone! Ed has mushed, and there's a review . Also, for those who have to add this to ZXDB, it's "Advanced Orb Pondering Simulator", as opposed to anything else you might see in the review title. https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg49PUEJxWj-L8i6WWh_7XL...

Re: Fake history

Freddie Lakers Airline Capers - backstory, from the other forum, is here That's the first thing I thought of. Even so, it still came as a surprise that it was Phil Ruston who had done it; I'd only known him from the three Giddy games - two on the Amiga, one for early-2000s PCs - which are all worth...

Re: Sinclair-related Cambridge sights?

I don't think I've been in the Baron of Beef since my student days, and most likely when the year still started with 19. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it's been "updated" for MODERN AUDIENCES.

Re: C5 cautionary tale

I finally listened to the Tim Harford podcast yesterday and it covered a lot more ground than Toast did. Now, does anyone want to complete the trilogy? Released barely four hours ago, Ruaridh MacVeigh has turned his "Motion History" series to the C5. He's a "plains, trains and automob...

Nobody's got A yet? That's Advanced Pinball Simulator. And I'd have got that instantly if I'd remembered that it was Friday and there was a quiz this morning.

It's been done with ULAplus, obviously.

Bright red ink on non-bright red paper? You got it. Orange? You got it. Commodore brown? Actually, no, but some rusty-red will do.

Re: Will Spectaculator ever get a new version?

4. RZX playback: sometimes the percentage display at the bottom is wrong. Instead of gradually counting from 0 to 100%, it keeps looping rapidly 0 through 100 all the time during playback, like 10%...50%...100%...20%...40%...90%...10%... This doesn't seem to cause any problems but obviously it's no...

Re: Dungeons & Dragons Computer Fantasy Game

It looks like a Game & Watch with LCD segments in fixed places. There's been a few such conversions in recent years - and it must be one of the few occasions where the Spectrum's colour-clash cells aren't a problem as all the segments can be carefully drawn to fit inside the 8×8 cells.

Sparked by this post, I fished out the episode of "Toast" that R-Tape posted last May, and listened to that on the way to the skating rink for a Sunday afternoon weaving around small kids with zimmer frames and hopeless parents trying to supervise. It's a 21-mile drive along the back roads...

Re: When tapes fail due to age

This has been a general trend in terms of media. Old material gets 'archived' on to new media - but will probably outlast it. Paper / clay lasted thousands of years, original film stock and microfiche can go on for hundreds ... To deviate slightly from the original topic, can anyone shed any light ...

The Dinamic/Mastertronic game Video Olimpic/Video Olympic has a Coke logo on the loading screen, and fake ads for "Noescafé", "Adidis", "Kode" (Kodak) and "Cocaina"! Talking of which, let's not forget Cristian Gonzalez and his "Noentiendo" brand, wh...

Re: Games for international days

Ironically it's easier to have Welsh games on the ZX Spectrum. You can have a font with accents, and you have access to white for the flag! "Cyan", white and either orange or magenta for the Welsh flag if you want to draw it on the Welsh computer. Or... pretend the QL is Welsh! That comes...

It's going to be hard thinking of a suitable celebration for 4th of December - International Miners Day . Not that anyone has ever been fed up with the Monty Mole games, and even if so there's always Pitman Seven with its horrific controls... but I might, possibly, have started initial forays on wh...

Re: Change the charset in SAM

I found it could be done with the UDG function. So whereas on a Spectrum, you'd have POKE USR "a" and POKE USR "A" both altering the first line of the UDG A, on the SAM, those would change the characters a and A respectively. To change the UDG, that required POKE UDG CHR$ (whatev...

Re: That thing with the bottom two lines

Yep, I think one of the fairly rare areas where the Speccy scores over the BBC Micro is the BASIC editor, even the 48k one, when you want to edit an existing line. On the Beeb you have that strange double-cursor mechanism where you have to LIST the desired line, cursor your way up there, and then h...

Maybe something @TMD2003 can help with, and there's a Next subforum here. Erm... really? To do any machine code on the Next, I'd really need to first find out how to access all the other banks. Pretty much everything I do with machine code is screen manipulation, and playing around with banks 9-11 ...

For the record, I've eaten surströmming and I wasn't sick. The worst part of it was how unbearably salty it is. Yes, you heard me - the fact that it's rotten and smells like it, is not its worst feature. I'll be surprised if there isn't already a cocktail called Blood n' Guts - involving curdled Bai...
