Yes! You must
You have also just inspired me to revisit the first game I ever tried to make on the spectrum.

Re: C.S.S.C.G.C 2024 is/will be/has open/ing/ed
Mona loser really is a QL game - written on a real QL - getting it on to the PC was the hardest challenge! Just a couple of lines were added so it would run on QPC, as I thought that would be easiest for Ed. It's pure coincidence that Mona Lisa image was used in this game and as Eds theme. I made th...

"Retro gaming really wasn't a thing at the time 16-bit systems were becoming ever more prevalent"
Yes, this is a fair point. At the time I was busy rejecting anything remotely 8 bit. Chasing the dragon of ever better graphics.

Re: The Lower Caverns
I can't believe they just forgot. The game has 20 levels to prove Eugene wrong about what the spectrum was capable of, and that level is a symbolic flushing him down the toilet. It is CENTRAL to the games law.
nice work fixing it! the Sam has very impressive graphic chops for sure.

I'd love to know the story as to why it was changed. Even the name of the level was changed.
This is not an April fools - Sam has no Eugene!

why was it changed? Seems like that level is almost as iconic as the whole game.

One version has a ROM switcher built in and can take a bigger eprom with more roms? I think. Not 100

I agree, it's hard to find any info.
Have you tried the forum over at www.houseofharlequin.co.uk ?

Re: 3d prints
Hi, sorry for not replying.
The quality of the 3d printer is very pleasing, and they have really come down in price. I realise that photos of 3d prints don't always do justice to the quality. As the camera seems to find defects the eye ignores!
Some filament seems better than others.

Re: C5 cautionary tale
I ride an e-bike in London now, since I need to transport two kids and it's about twice as fast as a car for most journeys as congestion has got so bad. I got rid of the car. I was just thinking the other morning that this was effectively Clive's vision. How it could have all been so different... B...

Re: Sinclair QL Design issues
The outcome of this thread, and 1024MAK s brilliant insight is that I bought a QL. Changed the MDv regulators and they sprang into life. Built a ql-vga-pico for about £10 and have a standard output on my moden monitor. Here's a photo... https://i.postimg.cc/sBLbVR7s/IMG-20240309-085433-01.jpg The QL...

Rampage is also great.worcestersource wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 11:02 pm Great read. I think it was a version of level four.
Bob Pape’s possibly my favourite Speccy coder. I loved R-Type in the arcades and was blown away by how accurately he converted it to the humble Speccy.

Re: R-type question
I think getting to level 4 is easy enough. The first 3 levels are pretty easy, and part from a couple of pinch points. level 4 seems ridiculous. I never got past it. I think one version of the game is physically missing the last level of the game. It's explained in Bob's book, but I can't remember n...

glad people had fun with this one. Maybe a compiled basic version would work well to remove the input slow down. Making the game tiny and hard to see was part of the 'crap idea', I wonder if I could make it double size - but not sure it would really work as a 'good' game. Anyway, I can do the last l...

uglifruit Have you been watching pottery throw down by any chance? We certainly have. Maybe we could make a crap game where you have to make a pot the sets Keith off crying. Your games from last year certainly were part of my inspiration. It was fun to code this without any real idea of what I was ...

Nice review, thanks :) https://i.postimg.cc/nCHgKycS/Screenshot-20240122-091553-01-01.jpg When you lose the game it should create a new splash screen with the level where you died, like above. I enjoyed making this one, and playing it, although the play area is tiny! I should add that I learned abou...
