Re: Lemmings on the Next
I haven't managed to build it, but it looks like the process is: Clone/Download the Lemmings repository Within the repo is a tool called LemConv , wich is a C# program that will convert the assets from the Windows version of Lemmings into a format that can be used to build the Next version. (Looks l...

Re: AUSPOOLS and PROSPECT3 (m.i.a. recovered)
They had a lot of cool stuff — I spent a good couple of hours just browsing the home micro section and could have stayed longer. I barely looked at the console stuff and didn't even touch their arcade! I'll need to make another trip soon.

AUSPOOLS and PROSPECT3 (m.i.a. recovered)
I made the trip down to Forgotten Worlds in East Ayrshire this weekend * and picked up a couple of betting-related Spectrum programs on cassette. I noticed they were both listed in ZXDB as MIA so I've digitised and uploaded them via the preservation tools. https://www.forgottenworlds.co.uk/wp-conten...

Re: Help with Horace
Nice job! If the extended system variables were collapsed then the relocation would work just fine There's a handy bit of code that comes with LERM Code Compressor 1 which will reclaim the system variables Wonderful, thank you! That's very helpful. I had fun hacking at this, but it was getting on f...

Re: Help with Horace
Forgive the plug, but I'd recommend using SkoolKit's tap2sna.py for purposes like this I was just about to recommend it! :D I normally use Fuse, but the notion of a “perfect” snapshot captured by the tool right after loading is very satisfying. the game can be compressed (to work on 16 /48 ) That’s...

Re: Help with Horace
Yeah, the code at 24576 uses the ROM tape loading routines to load the next part of code, called "m". It's saved with a header indicating it should be loaded to 24576 as well, but the program ignores that and loads it to 23760. Unfortunately that's in the middle of the microdrive maps/chan...

Re: +3e rom shows fail crc in dianostics
@oO cozy Oo, you mentioned in another topic that you're using the DivIDE ROMs, I think that might be why it's not working (and why the checksums don't match). As @Guesser was saying in that thread, it's the "Simple 8-bit" (sm8) version of +3e you're probably looking for.

Re: +3e rom shows fail crc in dianostics
I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. The CRC is just a “fingerprint” of the ROM contents; the diagnostic is just saying it doesn’t recognise the +3e ROM (this is because it has been modified from the original Amstrad code, so the “fingerprint” is different.

Re: is there an emulator that supports the sid?
How about SimCoupé? It supports SID emulation, and the emulated SAM can itself emulate a 48K Spectrum. I haven't tried but the emulated-SID is on port &d4 so the emulated-Spectrum should be able to access it?

Re: mandelbrot drawing CPU benchmark
Ah, I see the problem @danboid, you're looking in the Z80n directory, but those are just partial files, meant to be INCLUDE'd within another asm file.
The directory called zxn is the one you need. That contains the .asm files that can be assembled. The build script is in there as well!

Re: mandelbrot drawing CPU benchmark
It looks like the asm files in the ZXN directory already have the correct SjASMPlus directives, so I was able to assemble just by running the build.sh file, but you could also invoke it directly: sjasmplus --lst zxn-mandelbrot.asm sjasmplus --lst zxn-mandelbrot2.asm sjasmplus --lst zxn-mandelbrot_12...

https://youtu.be/GEz9XxkwgLM?si=lbGicF13SpBXn9Jy Nice one Glen, I enjoyed the video. The SID player is (as far as I understand) actually a partial 6502 emulator, (so it really benefits from running on a faster Z80 but quite a few tunes work at 3.5MHz) but that means it’s compatible with normal SID f...

Thanks, yeah there was also an article in Ars Technica about it that gives a bit more context to the game itself. There is some further interesting information in the comments about language and history too.

Radio Študent – Spectrum Game FM Broadcast
Tonight Radio Študent in Slovenia revived the (very cool) tradition of broadcasting ZX Spectrum software over the radio:

Re: Psychedelia in "line mode"?
The text column continues below the screenshot, it should read Load Psychedelia with LOAD "" CODE The "line mode" refers to one of the features of the program itself (press the L key to toggle Line Mode on and off). It's seems to crash on +2A (at least in my emulator) though, eve...

Re: Blasphemy! Your favourite C64 SID chiptunes...
This week I've been mostly playing with HardSID on eLeMeNt ZX (hopefully allaying any fears that this topic isn't sufficiently Spectrum-related!) It works by driving the eLeMeNt's FPGA SID implementation. (It has a conventional/discrete Z80 but some tunes need it clocked at 7 or 14MHz). https://zxfi...

Re: UniDOS on the +D (Plus D) disk system
when MGT had become (or been purchased by?) Datel I believe they sold the PlusD to concentrate on launching SAM Coupé (and raise a bit of cash, and get away from support, repairs etc. to focus on the new machine). Before the +D there was the Disciple (disk... I pull?? GET IT?? god knows) -- which w...

I've added a few more, this time from TILT magazine.
I noticed from the recent changes list that @sn3j has already done a couple, so I've only updated the others.
