Re: Spectrum Next Kickstarter 2 - Latest update - Delivery Q3 2023

I just want to point out that the reason for this delay is the worldwide shortage of FPGA chips. Except for that vital component, the KS2 project is pretty much ready for production. Originally, KS2 would use the same FPGA as in KS1, the Xilinx Spartan-6. However, since Xilinx has recently halted th...

Re: Next after a year of ownership

I like my Next very much. I've used it to play the original games and some of the new Next-specific titles. But mainly I use it for development. It's super fun to develop for the Next :) It has an excellent BASIC in form of NextBasic and very good C support in form of z88dk. It's quite easy to get g...

Level 9 games for Spectrum Next

I'm happy to announce that a porting of the open source Level 9 interpreter is now available for the Spectrum Next. This interpreter supports all of Level 9's games (19 in total), uses the improved graphics from the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST versions of the games and provides saving/loading of th...

Re: Wonderland

UPDATE: An important bug fix has been made to Wonderland version 1.1.0 and the downloads for Wonderland and the Magnetic Scrolls Compilation have been updated. Previously, the game could crash when saving or loading a game position during playback of an animation. This has now been fixed. Thanks [m...

Re: Wonderland

Great, thanks. On my machine, the graphics which are animated turn into rectangular blobs and the game freezes. A saved file is created, but the game cannot load it up. Savind and loading is otherwise fine. Just to make sure, do you have a "real" Spectrum Next or a compatible system (e.g....

Re: Wonderland

Magic Knight I just tested saving the game in the CSpect emulator when having a running animation and that worked fine. Tonight I will also test on actual hardware and see if I can reproduce the problem. Thanks :)

Wonderland

Strand Games is happy to announce that Wonderland, the last of the Magnetic Scrolls games, is now available for free for the Spectrum Next. Wonderland is a huge game featuring over 100 location images with many of them animated and it was originally only released for 16/32-bit systems. For the first...

Re: test.bank loaded into the next at NextBuild?

There is a Discord group for Spectrum Next with a dedicated channel for development with Boriel and NextBuild that is quite active:

https://discord.gg/eAsEdfb

I think you have a higher chance of getting help with NextBuild there :)

Re: Next : Bank und Slot.

I don't know anything about NextBuild but from your first post it looks like the MMU8 command is of the form MMU8(<MMU-slot-number>, <MMU-page-number>) where MMU-slot-number is 0 - 7 and MMU-page-number is 0 - 95. So your examples would mean the following: MMU8(6, 32) means page in MMU page 32 into ...

Re: Next : Bank und Slot.

I'm not familiar with NextBuild but I can give you some info on the Spectrum Next memory layout. The Spectrum Next has 64 KB addressable memory. This memory is divided in 8 MMU slots of 8 KB each and numbered from 0 to 7. An unexpanded ZX Spectrum Next has 1 MB physical RAM of which 768 KB is availa...

Re: I keep wanting an Enterprise

Yes, Your Computer was my favourite magazine as a youngster. I think we may have read the same feature. I was super impressed too. Your Computer was also my favourite magazine. I loved reading about all the different computer models that emerged during the 80s. I also read YS, SU, Crash and sometim...

Re: ZXDB Update 23/04/2021

hitm4n The easiest way to contact the SpecNext team is to send a mail to [email protected]. In practice, I think Mike Cadwallader handles most of their web site and replies to specnext.com mails. He's a really nice chap by the way :)

Re: Do you remember the first time?

Except for Horizons, I think one of the following must have been the first game I loaded: Jetpac, Pssst or Chequered Flag. I'm not sure though, it was a long time ago :) My first home computer was a Spectrum 48K that I bought together with my father. I paid half of the price and mowed the lawn for t...
