Dan Dare for me. Beautiful, smooth, great fun to play - I lost days to that and still love a game even now.
Decathlon would've been my second choice - can't quite forgive it for breaking my keyboard membrane.

Re: New TOSEC of ZXSpectrum (Nov 2017)
Is there a way to download this all in one go? Unusually for archive.org I only seem to be able to browse the files individually, there's no massive zip file. Or I didn't see one if there is. Very comprehensive collection, and a lot of effort put into naming and tagging everything properly, too. Edi...

Cyberun isn't great, but it's easily the best of the bunch. Pentagram is just dead boring, the other two are genuinely awful.
Cyberun's main problem is that it's just too damned hard, but I played a lot of it back in the day with a bunch of POKEs added.

I so wanted to love Sam Cruise like I did the Skool games, but I just found it impossibly difficult without a cheat and impossibly cryptic without a solution.

Voted for Chaos. Chuckie Egg is also blisteringly good, but Chaos has that old 'infinite replayability' bonus so I think it wins.
Chase HQ.... I realise it's really polished and an amazing conversion, but I never really found it much fun to play. Possibly because I'm crap at it.

Slimmer pickings for C and most of my ideas have already been listed, but I would like to suggest Cabal - a most excellent arcade port.

Not my choice, but a very worthy winner!
Do we vote for an overall winner once you have one for each letter?

Re: Sound libraries, any examples.
I used Shiru's "BeepFX" to generate sound effects for my last couple of projects, it's great fun to play around with and makes some super beeps and farts. It even has a randomize button that you can keep hitting if you don't really know what you want. The assembly code it generates is pret...

This is much harder than the 'a' vote was. I can see the love for Bomb Jack because I absolutely love it myself, but in terms of sheer time spent playing I think Back to Skool just nudges it for me, and has the added bonus of being a Speccy original.

I made my own top ten list over on Twitter (https://twitter.com/Blerkotron/status/9 ... 2059983874), but a proper discussion and vote with multiple categories would be a super idea!

Re: Horace & The Robots
Probably the best Berzerk/Frenzy clone I've ever played on a home system - really excellent stuff! My only minor niggle is that it doesn't have a high score table - a weird omission in a game which is basically an endless score-attack. Well worth your time, though - especially if you can hook up a C...

Re: The A-Z of the best Speccy games (modern: post-1993)
Indeed, it's a great idea - the 'modern' Speccy games really don't get the attention they deserve and it'd be nice to have a list of the very best of the best to help newcomers get started. If they actually read it instead of saying "hey, who remembers Manic Miner?!" for the 438th time.

Re: The A-Z of the best Speccy games (modern: post-1993)
I agree - Metal Man is better than More Tea, Vicar. But I liked Magic Tokens, Magical Tower Adventure and Majikazo more than both of them. And my favourite M is Maritrini - Freelance Monster Slayer. :) While we're being argumentative (I jest, don't panic!), Doom wouldn't even be in the running for m...

Yes, Craig is @hot_piping.
I've added revealing the level to the wish list, it should be very straight-forward to do.

Update time! I've just released v1.0 - a couple of tweaks and bugfixes, and I've also implemented the much-asked-for "can't lose on your first click" mode. Downloads are again available from my itch.io page: https://blerkotron.itch.io/minesweeper Thanks to everyone who tried the first vers...

Re: Minesweeper 16/48
I played it. It's everything that Minesweeper should be, nothing more, nothing less. Okay, maybe two things: 1) When you write your next game, think about adding some music. In the classic times we had mostly silence and some farts from beeper in Spectrum games but today if you want to do something...

Re: Minesweeper 16/48
Great game, very polished. I do like the Hero mode, a while back I wondered how to combine something like Pixel Quest with Minesweeper, but went down the pixel = mine route. This way works pretty nicely. One thing though, I went up to the hard level and medium grid and bombed first attempt about 10...

This is great and well done for your first attempt in machine code. Yup, found a bug though.... The flag counter can go from 0 to 255 if a numbered square is clicked on twice. I have a snapshot that I can email you. Oops, I knew it was worth calling it a beta! :-) I'll check that out and get back t...

Minesweeper 16/48
I've just released a public beta of Minesweeper, which is (surprise!) a Minesweeper clone for the 16K, 48K and 128K Spectrum. The game comes as two versions - a 16K release for little Spectrums and an enhanced 48K release for its bigger brothers. The enhanced edition features an extra mode with boar...
