Re: Using A.I to recreate ZX Spectrum loading screens.
Its not easy to place the inscription, because it regularly mixes up the letters. I tried to make a picture with "TURBO ESPRIT" written above, but most often I get "TURBO ESPIRT" or some letters duplicated. Dan Dare attempt is better, but still not perfect. Now I have to wait 45 ...

Re: Aliens: Neoplasma
Love your games. When it comes to "classic Spectrum" vs. NEXT, I wonder if that's something to take advantage of. There's a Commodore 64 game called "Doc Cosmos," where you have to switch between '1983' and '1987' modes, which are a gameplay/graphics conceit to celebrate the adv...

Re: The best Speccy game by Durell: vote
I was just wondering why there is no Chain Reaction on the list. Itis an official sequel to Critical Mass, but the game is most interesting because the 128k version has an "unplanned" easter egg. Due to a bug in the game, its not possible to hear the beautiful Jean-Michel Jarre tune, adapt...

Re: Game Collecting - How high would you go?
I have thousands of tapes, due to my obsession in finding and sharing MIAs. I don't spend to much on individual titles, unless they are not preserved yet. But I have some priceless items on my collection. Some tapes are unique and I own the only copy available. I reckon it would achieve very high p...

I did splurge once on a large collection of games because Pentagram was hidden in there :? In all, I have about 100 games but they're purely for display and I've no intention of "collecting" https://i.postimg.cc/svXX07kt/IMG-20230925-205624.jpg This is truly a feast for the eyes. :)

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
New test version available here . Bumped version to 0.99 as this is now a full assembly rewrite of the existing code and I wanted to differentiate it from the current version. I'm expecting bugs and broken features but these will be ironed out before I release version 1.00. I haven't exhaustively t...

Re: Game Collecting - How high would you go?
My collection of Spectrum games is rather small, but over time I did manage to collect all the classic Ultimate cardboard boxed games. I probably paid around 20 Euros per title for those. This is very similar to my case, except that I bought them at lower prices, about 5 pounds per title, mostly be...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
Today I did a more comprehensive test of my ZX-Uno sd card with the latest LFN 25-3. I ruled out the possibility, that cluster size was an important factor, after testing two different 16Gb SD cards, with 4096 and 8192 values. In both cases, LFN worked well, with the minimum required files to work (...

Re: Game Collecting - How high would you go?
I stopped buying classic original games several years ago, when the prices started going wild and royal mail raised the overseas postage. Up to that point I had paid the most BBC Elite and Flight Simulator II (C64), about £10, then Knight Lore (Spectrum) and Atic Atac (BBC), about 5 or 6 pounds. Eve...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
bob_fossil Definitely, cluster size makes a difference. Last night I tried the latest desUBIKado "Summer '23" 16Gb sd card image, with LFN 25-3 and I also have similar issues with messed up directory content. This image is customized in a similar way as mine and formatted with 4096 cluste...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
I investigated this issue further and here is what I noticed. My sd card is formatted with slightly different parameters (cluster size 4096, starting sector 64), probably that the DOS system files would work correctly on the FAT32 partition. When I formatted card with the default values (cluster s...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
No, it's probably a bug in the C code I rewrote in assembly. If you can zip up the disk image and make it available for download somewhere I can try and investigate further. Thanks Bob, I sent you the image link in a PM. On this sd card, I have a lot of special files for other cores, including the ...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
Maybe it's the cause of the problem, because I'm not using the whole 16Gb sd card, just a first 5 Gb FAT32 partition on it, for easier backup.
The rest is unallocated space.

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
New test version available here . Final bit of size reduction in the FAT handling code as it's now all written in assembly. Seems to work on my FAT32 setup under emulation in Fuse and in FAT16 on my +2 - but there may be issues. Typically this would manifest itself as corrupted or empty directory l...

DIY-A586 FPGA
Another interesting fpga, a good competitor for mid-range devices.
For now, it has the Amiga and Spectrum core.
As far as I can see its not available as a commercial product, but as a DIY project.

Like this game, I think it deserves positive comments.
Some screens have that "Cauldron" charm and there are also nice big animated sprites.
Nice work.
