Sounds a bit like the fun and games I had with mine, though even worse. I only had to replace one of the ram chips as it would load most but not all games and crash at random times. My plus is similar but has far fewer wires. What is the board with the red and orange cable? That the LEDs?

If its on the plus there is an exta led for power ,the strip is run off the usb port without any extra wiring necessary.
