Re: What does ZX mean?
There was an intern working at Sinclair, kind of a work experience kind of deal, and Clive said to the guy "We need a name that gets us to the top in any list, you know like how Google chose a name that would appear at the start of an alphabetical list of websites" - but the poor sod didn'...

Re: New snap format that convenient for view/modify
I would like to ask why you're not using an emulator that has a decent debugger/memory viewer built in which lets you examine RAM and make changes and then you can save your stuff out as whatever snapshot format you want.

Re: Sinclair Basic compiler IDE ?
Yes, BASin was never finished and likely, as a compiler, will never be; I've moved on to pastures new I'm afraid - Spectrum BASIC on a PC is way more fun than it ever was on a Spectrum - but you should be able to compile with a native compiler. Don't expect amazing m/c performance though, you're sti...

Re: Zx Omni what is it? Is it any good?
Hi, Anybody found a way to update ESXDOS in ZX Omni ? Issue 4 is based on AT28C256 (compared to AT28C64 in standard divMMC), as I understand it contains two version of ESXDOS and two of UnoDOS. Unfortunately EEPROM is soldered, so any jumper configuration to enable flash ? You cannot flash the EEPR...

It's a fun routine. Converted to SpecBAS:

Section 19, the PLAY chapter, is missing a diagram and instead has an ascii representation of the stave etc. It's badly broken on a couple of lines.

Our emulation chat has probably the biggest set of tests for all models of Speccies on the net by now, and it's very active with emulator development chat.

Re: NEW THEME! for the Spectrum Computing Forums
Thanks guys, it's working. Feel a bit of a tit with the wrong theme selected though.
FWIW, I did a load of icons for WOS years ago (new post, active thread/forum etc) and if anyone can find them they're welcome to use them for the topic/forum lists.

Re: Dark Reader no longer works on the forums
This seems to work fine for me too @ZXDunny. I have tested on W10 and W11 on Chrome. Could you give more details of the issue you are having, and what OS you are using? https://i.ibb.co/WKDHjZ3/Dark-Reader.png Working again now - the next day I log in and it's fine. I'd not want to point fingers at...

Re: Dark Reader no longer works on the forums
Hi, I also use Dark Reader on my phone, and I noticed that from time to time it stop working and start working again the next day. Not sure why. Anyway, a dark theme is on my roadmap, and is going to be based on ZX-prosilver. I just want to be sure the light theme is OK before moving to the dark on...

Dark Reader no longer works on the forums
As subject - I've been using it for a while now (chrome extension) due to the lack of a dark theme. It worked well.
Not anymore. Do we really have to use this awful theme? It's so bright I need sunglasses. It's 2022 guys, what's going on?

BASin comes with both the 48k, 128k, +2 and 48k+ manuals all distilled into one. The blue pages above are in the appendices iirc. It's in .chm format but worth keeping around.

Re: Optimal BASIC to generate the test pattern graphics
Yeah I considered the usual number replacements (but didn't twig on to the embedded control chars, shame on me - I blame long use of specbas for that) but opted instead for speed.
122 bytes is damned impressive though.

Re: The Amiga games libary vs The ZX Spectrum's
Cybernoid and Cybernoid 2.
They had the same maps, same layout (more maps on the Amiga) and the same gameplay. Graphics were amazing on the Amiga, loads of particles as you'd expect.
But the Amiga version absolutely stunk.

Awesome. I take it batteries are not included? Djordge is not clear on his website on this. Nope, you will have to source your own. I used these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Battery-Plastic-Cigarettes-Starter-Nicotine/dp/B09P198PWB/ (but 3500mah) and here they are in my Omni: https://i.ibb.co/f4TFf44/...

Re: Zx Omni what is it? Is it any good?
Good to hear. The HDMI is still not working? Anybody knows the battery life of the ‘laptop’? HDMI not working no. Battery life between 2 and 3 hours on 3.5mhz speed, charges when plugged in. Batteries are cheap enough to source on ebay - get some decent 3500mah. What is the best location to purchas...
