Re: What's the SHORTEST Speccy game ever?
I wrote this ages ago on comp.sys.sinclair as some kind of pisstake in a thread about game difficulty.
...and then pretended it's the hardest game ever. Others joined in, in mock-agreement.
Code: Select all
10 PRINT "Press any key to win this game"
20 PAUSE 0
30 PRINT "Well done, you have won."

Naah, we're never gonna get through the best of EVERY software house and the worst as well! I doubt we'll even complete every software house anyway.worcestersource wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 1:11 pm You could run a worst game of too! Alchemist
I'd add Werewolves Of London, but that's a time-based change rather than a conscious one. Just like Knight Lore really.

@PeteProdge based on that compilation above, another topic what would be a “Best Of” compilation? Take the top 4 or 5 results from the polls and make the ultimate “Best of” compilation, as voted by readers of Spectrum Computing!! The idea is already in the works! I think it'll go along the lines of...

Re: Longest wait between Speccy sequels?
The last 2 official Dizzy games, perhaps? (No idea which year) Ooh! Going on the adventure-based Dizzy series, that'd be 28 years! Crystal Kingdom Dizzy (the 7th in that lineage) came out in 1992. The 8th game, Wonderful Dizzy came out in 2020! (And I've just realised that none of the purely arcade...

I wrote a post last year on the unusual decisions Ocean made for what became an Ocean game or an Imagine game. @toot_toot comes up with the best response in that thread, it's really well researched.

Why is everyone giving a reply with three out of the four games listed in the order of preference? The original questionnaire says that "You may select 1 option". You must be new to these polls. Yes, you can vote for just one option in the forum-driven poll, that's the main poll. But, we ...

Apart from fitting on the plug, my dad had absolutely NOTHING to do with the Spectrum or indeed any technology more advanced than a television set. On the day I first switched it on, he stared at the screen for a minute as I was playing Colin The Cleaner, but other than that, nope. It'd be like tryi...

1) Manic Miner. I know JSW does more and breaks you out of the linear gameplay of MM, but the OG has more exciting game play and interesting screen design.
2) Jet Set Willy.
3) Styx.

There's no better takedown on Imagine's demise than this brutal write-up from Stuart Campbell , which wipes out the myths put forward by Bruce Everiss. The best Speccy game by the two eras of Imagine: discussion
Yes, I did a poll on ALL ZX Spectrum games originally released under the Imagine brand , but as any Speccy historian can tell you, there are two phases to Imagine's life. And I've always wanted to cover this... 1) The plunky arrogant and ultimately complacent up-start created by former Bug-Byte folk...
