Re: What's the worst Speccy arcade conversion of a good game?
I wonder if it’s this guy: Jonathan Edgar Riglar, born 1969 and now an Operations Manager for Careflex Yep, I reckon that's him. Now, who's gonna volunteer to be the mad stalker who contacts Careflex and asks to speak to Riglar in order to get him to explain an inconsequential tips article for a ru...

Re: What's the worst Speccy arcade conversion of a good game?
The article addresses all of that. Still, there's no denying the whole Jon Riglar tips thing is just outright weird. My best take on that -- having myself once been a young, (and sometimes) impressionable hack -- is that perhaps he was doing a PR a favour? I dunno... that whole feature otherwise ma...

Re: What's the worst Speccy arcade conversion of a good game?
having read that, I'm not at all convinced there was a good nemesis beta, they just look like static artistic mock-ups, hence why they are 'signed' by STU. The article addresses all of that. I think I'm with RR7 on this: I don't think the *screenshots* are from any 'good' Nemesis beta. That doesn't...

Re: Do you remember the last time?
The Christmas I got my Amiga 500 (Batman Pack) I also got a copy of Hard Drivin' for the Spectrum from my Auntie which I'd asked for before knowing I'd be getting the "big present". [...] So my last Spectrum experience was a bit of a damp squib sadly. Oh man (or lady), that's harsh! Hard ...

Do you remember the last time?
...because we most of us remember the first time! What I mean is that many of us here could probably say what the first Spectrum game was that we played, or at least take a good stab at it. But how about the last one? Okay, 'last' in this context means the last Spectrum game you remember playing bac...

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
It actually worked out a lot more than that. Without it I would almost definitely not be a writer today. Huh. If I'd had to guess I'd have said you were already a 'famous' games reviewer by 1988. Still, I've not exactly followed every step of your career. (Aside: It occurred to me recently that you...

Fever dreams
Well okay, not quite - but last night I didn’t sleep very well and one of the things that was keeping me awake, of all things, was trying to recall if there were any ZX Spectrum games based on or featuring… tightrope walking! So - anyone? And what nonsense Spectrum thoughts have stopped you from sle...

Re: 48K > 128K
I can't remember what game it was, but I'm sure I recall some driving game where the 128k version replaced the engine noise with nothing but music. The lack of sound effects robbed the game of its life, energy and audio response to your input, making you feel detached from the game. This prompts me...

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100
I could easily justify, say, swapping the positions of WEC Le Mans and Space Harrier depending how I felt on any given day, and Shao-Lin's could change places with any of the 10 games below it. I’ve been meaning to ask… At this juncture your top 100 is already set, yes? You already know number one?...

Re: London on the ZX Spectrum
There's Soho Sex Quest, of course. I can't find it in the database for some reason. I remember there being something about the database being a prude? Oh yes, it's in the database of this site, but you can't get it via a regular search. Sure, but why is that? I imagine the vast majority of members ...

Re: The twilight of the commercial era
Can't say I really was a fan of Players, the games were pretty mediocre and had that same feel across them. Also, I once read a bit about their history with Jeff Minter, and well... the family who founded it seemed particularly unpleasant and immature. Could we rewind a bit here? Any idea what/when...

Re: Arcade Machines from way way back.
I for years held a similar curiosity about a particular arcade game I played perhaps just a couple of times, on a holiday to Clacton circa 1978, when I was about 8. I used to tell friends about my memory of this arcade racing game that was basically real video, and yet fully interactive. These frien...

This is an awesome idea. Bravo. But it’s already clear that this one should’ve been at position 97.
