Re: Games for your family

Was just me and my younger brother on the Spectrum, parents didn't touch it. Wasn't until the Internet came along many years later that my mother used a computer

Re: The best Speccy game by Mastertronic: vote

Mastertronic were a huge part of my growing up with the Spectrum, those yellow cassette cases definitely invoke a huge dose of nostalgia. Several games that mean a lot to me, Future Games, must have been one of the first games I got as it does hold a special place in my Spectrum memories, even if it...

Re: The best Speccy game by Elite: vote

For me Commando was just ahead of Paper Boy, very close. Thinking about it, I have a hankering to have a go now. The other game I really thought about was 1942, so that completes my top 3.

1. Commando
2. Paper Boy
3. 1942

Re: The best Speccy game by Elite: discussion

I really loved Paperboy, spent loads of time playing that, even though it was pretty repetitive, but I still got a sense of achievement every time I correctly delivered a paper or knocked a bin over, and I loved smashing windows of folk not part of my route. The other two stand outs are Bomb Jack an...

I thought Batty was a brilliant game, and it is probably the spectrum game I still play the most to this day. It had the gameplay, nice graphics and great colours, all that was missing was a tune.

I though Draughts Genius was great, at the time was really impressed with the graphics and thought the music was done really well – can’t off the top of my head remember what piece of music it was that they used though.

Don't recall playing any other game from Rack-It though.

*Tumbleweed blows past* ZX Next Kickstarter Update #49, first really good news in a long time but we're all studiously ignoring it? *lone cricket* 2hr later edit: Just seems a bit odd is all. I'm quite pleased by the news, maybe others feel they have heard it all before. I don't know, but on the fi...

Re: The best Speccy game by Ocean: vote

Well I’m sure their use of marketing and licences worked on me as there was a lot of Ocean games that I had to go out and purchase when they came out. Whereas a lot of my games collection from other software houses were more done on a whim in the shop based on price, artwork and graphics, or because...

Re: The best Speccy game by Imagine: vote

Starting my spectrum life with a plus 2 meant I missed the first incarnation of Imagine, so to me they were always a software house of the big coin-up’s. I was completely oblivious to their early games and how they started out. I got Renegade as a free gift when I subscribed to Crash magazine, me an...

Re: Best BASIC game?

My first Spectrum was a +2, so Basic games were pretty much a thing of the past by then. But the one I did play, and play a lot was Football Manager, and thought it was a great game. I had a shot of it recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely play it again when I get my Next and spend a b...

After a not knowing the titles in the y and z polls I’m happy to see some familiar games mentioned here. 180 and 1942 were two games I played a lot, and loved. My younger self used to think it was hilarious when the dog peed at the end of the bar in 180. I also played 720 quite a bit, though always ...

In Match Day 2 you could play either a league or cup competition, can't remember what you could play in Match Day - I should maybe go and have a game, loved them both back in the day.

I'd add: W.A.R. by Martech Werewolves of London by Mastetronic William Wobbler by Wizard Computer Games Wolfman by CRL World Games by U.S. Gold ...but feel free to ign...

I remember playing Enduro Racer a lot as a child and thinking it was great. Had a go on an emulator recently and thought it pretty playable and just how I remembered it.

Not sure about Out Run though, I definitely played Turbo Out Run as I owned that, but I’m not sure I ever played the original.

Crash Annual 2019

I’ve had a look, and unless I’ve missed it, there doesn’t seem to be a post about the kickstarter for the 2019 Crash annual. The magazine was a big part of my Spectrum days, I got a subscription for my birthday which had Renegade as the free gift, definitely a good choice – don’t remember what the o...

The two Match Day releases are the only ones of his that I really played, but I did play them rather a lot and loved them. So for them alone I applaud his programming. I was aware of Head over Heels, but other than a couple of shots of a friends version I didn’t really get in to it at all. While the...

Going through those screen shots brought back a lot of memories, I would love to be 11 years old again and rushing home from school to fire up the Spectrum to play some of those. The game that jumped out for me on seeing the screen shots was Road Runner, I’d long forgotten about that one, but now I’...

Of the list the only one I recall playing, and one I really liked, was Nigel Mansell’s Grand Prix and I see that it was by Martech, whom I thought, “I’ve never heard of them,” when I saw the post about their first and last games – clearly I must have though, seen as I owned this game!
