Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
Mr Fossil, if I may - What exactly are you storing and in how much space? I'm thinking that to make things easier when creating a directory full of taps and snaps, to write a small app that calculates how many I can put in a single folder before it runs out of cache space and reverts back to the old...

Re: Website Issues
Where did the little 'like' heart go? Did say we might lose some functionality, but yeah. Ideally, I'd have just "liked" this post. "Likes" were a very handy way of expressing agreement or approval without cluttering threads with inane short responses. *Like* Is there a fu...

Re: Website Issues
I use https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/forums/search.php?search_id=newposts to get new posts and it never freezes. Clicking on the small "jump to latest unread post in a thread" icon on a thread link very often freezes. Waiting for it to time out and hitting the "Reload" button on...

Re: Website DNS is flaky at best
Weird one. I have a bookmark for the forum: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/forums/search.php?search_id=newposts which just brings up new posts since my last visit. It froze during loading, just now, so I killed the page. Tried again with a new tab; no difference. Killed the page. Tried again... and...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS
Thanks mr fossil. Any chance we can have some sinclair stripes in the info bars? :) So I've added a stripe to the bottom bar: http://www.thefossilrecord.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/zx/stripe.png As you can see from the above images, the stripes take the background from the colour set in the config pro...

Re: Website DNS is flaky at best
Had a couple of issues yesterday where the page wouldn't load but also wouldn't stop loading, had to wait for the timeout and then refresh, whereupon it would load fine. Was this the forums or the main site? If main site was it a specific page. Some game pages do contain a huge amount of content, s...

So where do we go these days if we want mass downloads of new software?
It's a tricky subject, I know, but my collection has been stagnant since about 2017 and I'm looking to update with all the stuff that's been released since. I can search on here for individual games, but is there anywhere that has large collections that can be sucked down? Or am I gonna have to get ...

Re: Zx Omni what is it? Is it any good?
I flashed the Omni Rom, it worked fine, thanks for the help @ZXDunny The Derby Pro Rom is a really good fit for the Omni. It really is. I'm not a HUGE fan of the style the BASIC took - the indentation feels odd, the frankly enormous status messages (CAPS LOCK for instance) is completely useless and...

I'll just say one word: HOW? (And yes, that is correct. Your turn.) Well, it's just one of those graphics that sticks in your memory I suppose. If it's any consolation I did have to pull up a youtube video to confirm it. ANYWAY. Here's mine: https://i.postimg.cc/VS1jsBCH/screenshot-754.png Edit: Th...

Re: FPGA based computers
Anyone used an Asus Eee? A 9" laptop PC that was perfect for travelling with and had full Linux/Windows support. I actually bought an old one to see if I could put a Spectrum board in there. It's close but I couldn't get a keyboard interface :? Much easier to just run an emulator on it  h...

Re: Website DNS is flaky at best
Both your issues sound familiar. In many cases yesterday I would click a link to a post from the search results and the page would look fine, but no buttons or links would work - after a minute or so Chrome would ask if I want to kill the unresponsive page. Re-loading usually fixed it. Other times, ...

Re: Website DNS is flaky at best
Also getting issue here too. Mostly the main site works fine, but jumping to the next unread post in a forum topic very often completely hangs and fails to load anything. This has been going on for weeks now. Yesterday the page would load, but would remain unresponsive for minutes at a time unless I...

Re: How do you change text size in basic?
CSIZE 0,0 for regular text, CSIZE 2,0 for double-width, CSIZE 2,1 for double-height as well... oh, wait, no, that's the QL. And the SAM Coupé had something similar. SpecBAS also allows fractional zooms with the SCALE command, which can be embedded in PRINT statements the same way INK can; 10 PRINT ...

Re: Zx Omni what is it? Is it any good?
I have reflashed the ROM package to include 48k/Velesoft fixed 128k/DerbyPro/Latest +2e, and then added BBC BASIC, AGD ROM version for giggles. I usually leave it set to DerbyPro, as it has a 128k BASIC editor that's almost (but not quite) as nice as the original. Sounds like an interesting combina...
