Re: Moderator Action
No, no, no. I don't think calling out the mod team on stifling free speech, exercising their wielded power etc. is fair. Until proven differently, I remain completely convinced that this decision was born out of inexperience and a genuine desire to "keep things nice" around. I do think it ...

Re: Moderator Action
I'm mostly with Einar on this one, though for slightly different reasons (which I would rather discuss in private, though). However, Pegaz, you make an interesting point. It's indeed one of the major nuisances of wos that useless and Spectrum-unrelated drivel has taken overhand th...

Re: Fuse 1.5.1 released
It has something to do with the old system being inflexible and overwriting option settings. In theory, as long as fastloading etc. are enabled, the new system shouldn't be significantly slower though, no?

Re: Compact 64 column print routine
About wasted bits in the font data, what about sticking in a RES 4, (HL) at nextrow just after the font row has been written to the screen? This would ensure that only the first three bits of each character are printed, allowing for the spare bits to be used as flags for other code. That sounds lik...

Re: Compact 64 column print routine
A tiny optimization: Near the top of charloop, replacing "dec a, or a" with "sub 1" will save 1 t-state.
Edit: Ah, nevermind, it will break on entering with C=0.

Re: Compact 64 column print routine
Woohoo, 35 bytes! Always great to see compact routines like this. Perhaps it could be tweaked for more efficient storage of the font though? I don't mind so much the wasted bits per character pair, but spreading out over 7 256b pages seems worth optimizing. Nevertheless, this is quite an achievement...

Re: Shrinkler, LZ77+arithmetic coding compressor
There are undoubtedly various use cases where this compression speed would be acceptable. What I'm more concerned about is the need to reserve a large buffer. A situation like this is not a problem for 4K intros, but it could be an issue if you've stuffed all the available RAM. Nevertheless, I think...

Wow, that's very, very awesome news. Massive props to roudoudou for pulling this off, and thanks to you and Hicks for optimizing the decruncher.
Now what's next, a z80 decruncher for brotli? paq8?

Re: Spectrum musicians - how do you do it?
not sure if the hardware implimentation of the Speccy stopped the other 2 sound channels being used. Man, you believe in some terrible superstitions :o Or you are confusing AY with beeper - later models of Zx Spectrum have two different sources of sound. 99% of program using AY play on all 3 channe...

Re: opening non zipped files
Aside from incorrect rendering and lack of support for some newer web techniques, the main problem with IE is that it provides little protection against common "hacking" attacks. Sadly, nowadays the whole browser market looks pretty bleak. Edge is a privacy nightmare and still falls short ...

Re: opening non zipped files
The part that puzzles me is this: That's not an available option, the closest is 'Save target as' which only saves the .htm of the link. The .bbsongs on the Beepola showcase aren't being delivered as .htm. The links go directly to the .bbsong files. So it is definately your browser doing this. Affec...

Re: Spectrum musicians - how do you do it?
Cheers R-Tape, considering they're first attempts, those tracks you posted aren't so bad! The secret to getting better at music is practise, plain and simple. Of course talent helps, but it's non-essential. Knowing some basic music theory will make things easier, though it's not a strict requirement...

Re: Cannot edit older posts.
Also, the edits don't have to be malicious for it to become confusing. Imagine a situation in which someone posts a block of useful code, then a few subsequent posts pick out a few minor points e.g. "I think you need an additional DEC D before the LDIR". Now the OP goes back and makes tho...

Re: Cannot edit older posts.
I'm with Hikaru on this one. Until there is an actual problem with people rewriting history, there's no good reason to put a time limit on editing one's own posts. If you are worried about clarity, then have users fill in a "reason for edit" field when they wish to edit their post after a ...

LD (ADDR),A/LD A,(ADDR) should be in "Extended Addressing" according to this nomenclature. I'd say the term "Memory Indirect" is more descriptive, though.
