Re: Kickstarter for ex-spectrum programmers?

Oh didn't know about that. Still, the reasons might be: -we have loads of dizzy games already -it was not for the spectrum I could be wrong of course. The spectrum next got people to pay large sums of money, they are doing well on Kickstarter. So I can believe that a lot of people would contribute a ...

Re: Kickstarter for ex-spectrum programmers?

I think they would have to put a lot of effort in , even the programming legends. So if they are not certain of any decent reward they might not have the motivation. In his recent interview the programmer of starstrike said he wasn't interested in making any more spectrum games. If a Kickstarter was...

Kickstarter for ex-spectrum programmers?

Just wondering if anyone would contribute to Kickstarters that were created by Jim Bagley,Ian Oliver (3d starstrike),the Oliver twins to create new spectrum games?
Or is there a reason none have been made?

Re: If you had to give five ZX Spectrum games to the Spice Girls

Ginger spice seems like a strategy game fan: so rebelstar 2 would keep her occupied. Posh seems like she needs to blow off some steam (Bennett) so obviously she'd like commando. Scary would like to take on a challenge, so how about saving the universe single-handedly from the bydo empire. She's obvi...

thats pretty cool. If my brother and I had this, we'd have bought two speccies to try it out..(bugged our parents continously for 2 years to buy another spectrum)

Elaborate death in games

A few tropes in early spectrum games.. usually in those programmed in basic are elaborate death sequences. The funeral march can often be heard in basic games. Gravestones appearing at the site of one's death are also common. Another early 8bit days trope was the player becoming an angel and flappin...

Re: XT-Engine: small, but powerful platform game engine in asm

oh ok i stand corrected ;)

does Abersoft Forth just handle it in a slow way? (much faster than BASIC of course)

BTW in Harry Potter they have a character named Aberforth Dumbledore. Was the author a fan of efficient programming languages for the ZX Spectrum?

Re: XT-Engine: small, but powerful platform game engine in asm

yet: there is simply not enough registers and addressing modes in Z80, and it may run out of registers too often, which will cause spilling. this needs a lot of R&D first. Why not design it for the z80...then just use a very similar system for windows and Linux. It would be (a tiny bit ) slow o...

earliest address to assemble to ?

whats the earliest address you can start a program on the spectrum? with the assembler im using I was only able to go as low as 6000 in hex or 24576 in decimal. Giving about 40k for the program. Anything below that gave a RAMTOP error. a webpage online says the free memory starts at 23755 admittedly...

Ah yes, that would be easy to do actually.
Just call the setup screen function every frame.
It does look like spectrum flicker on the gif so it probably is.

I just thought, I only draw text once when something happens. So the border will appear for a split second. Hopefully I get to see it

Re: Short fallout style text game (Merged from multiple topics)

All text drawing is in assembly. It would be interesting to see how long it takes with the border though.
