When I got my ZX81 I was at the time in High School and had taken Computer studies as one of my 4th/5th year options.

We were writing short 5-15 line basic programs etc for homework so the 1k was plenty enough for me to do that on..yes I actually did use it for homework.

If they do end up getting the plastics from China that's 6-8weeks just in shipping...unless they fly them which I doubt due to the cost of doing that...Late July/Aug delivery of finished units perhaps.

Yeah TS1000 are 10 a penny...you can pick one up for $15 easy on ebay. (and they have 2k rather than the ZX81s 1k)

FYI, if you are relatively handy with a soldering iron it's easy to add the clock, internal speaker and pi board (as well as pop in the extra memory). Well it's going to be open source so nothing stopping others from making boards...ZX renew are already making cases.
