Re: Using A.I to recreate ZX Spectrum loading screens.
I'm very torn on this whole AI thing. If we keep it purely in Speccy context, I don't think many Speccy homebrew creators who want to have an inlay image for their game will ask real artists do to them anymore. Possibly, but there are also homebrew developers that can't persuade (or pay) an actual ...

Re: Poll: How do you see Dizzy's eyes?
I think the 16-bit sprites show what it was supposed to look like, but I think the Spectrum one is the most iconic. Probably why they reverted to it for Spellbound Dizzy (also probably saved on effort redrawing all the animations).

Re: Idea for x-platform language
It would be more like checking flags in z80 and c64 but in a unified way. The problem with that is it very rapidly becomes complicated trying to hide all the nuance in the difference between Z80 and 6502. It's a lot easier when you're doing C style X<Y type comparisons and just generating semantica...

Re: Idea for x-platform language
It would pretty much be C, I'm not sure you'd gain much more by inventing an entirely new language. It's certainly a way of writing cross platform code, but 8-bit machines are so limited you tend to be aiming at the lowest common denominator and the results are never going to be like code tailored t...

Re: serious uses for 128k
Yeah the +3 is definitely the best for coding on, if you were using entirely retro hardware. My CPC certainly coped fine with the disc being written a bajillion times a day (or at least that's how often it seemed my code crashed) and I'd expect a +3 to be the same (unless you used cheap quality 3&qu...

Re: Poll: How do you see Dizzy's eyes?
I think it's looking forward, that sort of fits with the more animated version in later games. I think you're supposed to perceive that looking more like the second image though (i.e. the little white dot is actually supposed to be a white pupil) but the limitations of the hardware make it look kind...

Re: serious uses for 128k
It's certainly possible, though problematic given that you both have to keep BASIC around and have issues if the machine crashes (I don't think the banked memory gets zeroed on a reset, so it might be recoverable if you're careful). But it's still massively inconvenient compared with cross developme...

Re: Using A.I to recreate ZX Spectrum loading screens.
One could display it in an inappropriate setting such as, classically, in work, leading to the termination of one's employment. This could be considered 'harm' - financially, socially and otherwise. Images which may depict someone in a pornographic context or that might be used to threaten someone,...

That is sublime. Which generator did you use? The Bing one mentioned in the OP. Here's another, quite good although the text is a little off https://i.postimg.cc/xJLKHFv6/OIG-Qnt-W1-S056-MFEy-X-1.jpg a spooky looking house at night. a single window is illuminated with a bright light. a sign on the ...

Re: Are the NEXT's graphics 'authentic?'
Fwiw I'd have been much more impressed by a SAM version of Aliens Neoplasma than the Next version, even if they'd looked very similar.

Re: Are the NEXT's graphics 'authentic?'
The SAM Coupé was a natural extension to the Speccy, in the same way the Amstrad Plus was an extension to the CPC. Both were honestly disappointing in many ways, because trying to extend a restricted architecture and keep compatibility were conflicting goals that were inevitably going to reach a poo...

Most of the little jingles from Head over Heels would work. Or work as well as any alarm does at making me hit snooze again.

Good point, I've edited mine to include the prompt. Also gives people a chance to refine them.

Fwiw the Speccy does have a least one bullet hell shooter (although it's not exactly smooth as you'd expect) https://youtu.be/3vyobn83f3E?si=lI533BDTHVsGi-e_ But yeah, otherwise I'd agree with the consensus that "minimalist shooter" was essentially just about every shooter on the platform,...
