Re: Which emulator? (Sorry!)
FUSE without a doubt when it comes down to simply wanting an idiot proof way to access the games you are most likely to want to play. I cannot say that its the best for the various esoteric things that people here wax eloquent about - like T states, for example, what the hell is a T state? However f...

Re: What's going on with Spectrum Prices?
I agree with Ast.A.Moore, each new iteration of the basic PC seems to become further and further removed from actual usefulness. I don't want or like the 'cloud' notion, we're gradually going to lose the ability to have complete control over our own machines, or so it would seem to me. I don't want ...

Thanks a million chaps, what a wonderful, funny, creative piece of work. Well worth spending my time on again and again. The desert island tapes was a great idea and provides an insight into the tastes of people whose posts I always look out for, the lockdown report was bloody funny as was the Xmas ...

Re: Anyone tried Pangolins from the ZXBasic manual?
Well, "Pangolin" is really a small expert system. Look this book: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=2000056 Thanks again +3code, I'd never heard of that phrase before, 'Expert Systems' so I've learned something new. BTW the PDF file here won't load or dload it just g...

Re: Anyone tried Pangolins from the ZXBasic manual?
+3code? I've drawn a blank trying to phrase my searches to get leads to programs like Lisa or Smalltalk. Would you happen to know of any other similar sort of Basic programs that appear to let the user talk to the computer and get semi coherent replies? I freely admit that my intention is to hijack ...

Anyone tried Pangolins from the ZXBasic manual?
Here it is:- https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/15157/ZX-Spectrum/Pangolins In my opinion, either there's something wrong in the file (something missing that doesn't register as an error?) or its buggy as hell. One thing's for sure, that constantly repeated line "What is the answer for...&qu...

Re: Dunny is my hero!
That's a nifty bit of coding Joe. I just unpacked Charade and ran the demo 'Striker' looks good. I'll have to wait for a good day when its not bloody raining (plays hell with my arthritic bod) and I'm not blocked in with analgesics. I'll read the manual again and try the examples first chance I get....

Re: Looking for the original 48k Spectrum Basic manual
Oh that's great, thanks Peter. It was so frustrating to get a few titles and then have to keep looking a few items at a time as I laboriously worked through the pages. I'm not famed for my patience and when I want something NOW my fuse is even shorter than usual!

Looking for the original 48k Spectrum Basic manual
I'm looking for a downloadable version of the original 48k Spectrum BASIC manual but not knowing its proper title I cannot locate it. I have to say that I much preferred the old WoS system of having the books listed like a regular page of text. its much faster to scan down a listing like that especi...

Re: Dunny is my hero!
Thanks Joe. I did download Charade but I don't remember what I did after that, whether I tried to run it or perhaps found it a bit confusing? I dunno but I'll give it a go in a little while, thanks for the info on how to get the graphics into Basin, hopefully it'll all work out. First I need to rele...

Don't you remember when I tried to make a simple moon lander game? Called Mike's Lander. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mjwLD6juB8&ab_channel=PaulDunn I wanted to use a picture from your demos that looked like a moonscape and then add a steerable character that descended into the picture. You ...

Dunny is my hero!
His SpecBAS is brilliant but it's not as easy to use as I need because its so powerful that you can get in a jam fairly easily by, for example, not realizing you have to specify the window size if using graphics. It would be great if it had a default setting for beginners that took care of the initi...

Re: zx basic in the zx for kids
BRILLIANT BY ACCIDENT OR DESIGN? Sir Clive Sinclair built his brand by a mixture of innovation and affordable pricing. He was quick to see the possibilities of first transistors and then integrated circuits (I.C's or 'chips') used in the production of miniaturized products whose appeal was their nov...

You are absolutely right RLEAO and I can say that with confidence because it worked for me. I was in my 30's when I attended uni as a mature student and up to that point my math skills were dreadful so you can imagine my despair when I found myself faced with statistics, a course that even those who...

Re: Your favorite underdog (game)
Tir Na Nog is my choice. It was the only game I bought when it came out because of the reviews about how amazing it was. Amazingly unplayable, I'd have given good money for a Sidhe Killer POKE! I still wander aimlessly around it from time to time and still have no clue about how to play to win.

Re: Computer graphics during the 8 bit era
Thanks for this Peter, I've only just noticed it. A heavily biased great read! In fact, in my opinion, the author is obviously missing the point which is that almost by virtue of the Spectrum's minimalist engineering programmers had to exercise considerable ingenuity to discover ways around the mach...
