Re: HiSoft C programmers?
I much prefer assembler, I had trouble even with the modern C compilers. There's a bit of work to get started, you have to get a font , write a print string function (unless you want to use the rom print) write a print byte function. Then you have to experiment a bit with dereferencing pointers in a...

Re: playing tap through audio cable from phone
Just loaded commando from tape successfully.
Hopefully that doesn't mean most of my tapes are too old to be read.
Has anyone observed what percentage of games load after 40 years?

Re: Forth compiler for ZX
the snake example is good, seems faster than if it were made in BASIC. Im trying to compile it using CYGWIN which is a bash shell in windows :) I tried doing sh compile.sh Game/snake but it said it couldnt find FIRST.M4 because it was looking in ../FIRST.M4 So I moved the compile.sh into the same fo...

Re: playing tap through audio cable from phone
I made a little 9v amp with a 555timer and a few caps that could I powered from a splitter cable off the PSU. Using that fixed all my woes! is that using an 80's tape recorder? or a modern one. My modern tape recorder works better when I lower the volume. When I play sound through the speaker on fu...

Re: playing tap through audio cable from phone
A lot of people suggested getting a stereo to mono cable. Cos I'm using a modern tape recorder which probably outputs a stereo signal.
Im going to try that, then if it doesnt work i'll buy an old school tape recorder that outputs mono.

Re: Forth compiler for ZX
Looks interesting thanks.
I'll have a go at it.
Is it possible to create a string, then reference it in different places in the code? (Like a string pointer)
Can I dereference a pointer? (As in store a 16bit address at a certain address....then retrieve a byte or two from that stored address)

Re: Bullet Spray routines
Thanks it's worth a look . I suppose one way would be to project the computers car into the future if three different actions were taken and use the best. Although if the car crashed and was facing backwards it would need to do stuff which would seem bad to a short term prediction algorithm. So mayb...

Re: Bullet Spray routines
I get that bullet code you write in regards to velocity but the other stuff goes over my head. I'd need to study normalise and dot product to really understand what's going on. Such a sin... d'ohhh And the TAN line :| Would it easy using this maths to get the computer to control a car on super sprin...

Re: Bullet Spray routines
So doing it your way means you never have to deal with the threshold thing. Cos you are just checking for bigger than zero.
Sounds pretty good.

Re: Bullet Spray routines
Oh that's cool that you have it done in blitz basic already. I don't remember exactly what I did but I wanted to know if the player was in a 90 degree sight cone of an enemy. So the enemy wouldn't see you unless he was pointing in the correct one of the four main directions ( as in up down left righ...

Re: Bullet Spray routines
if each bullet was one pixel that would be easy to draw. It might provide a challenge...but I dont know how playable that would be overall. Are these 100 bullets going to come from a boss? if so, you'd have to decide are they going to shoot bullets out at the 8 traditional directions..or at every an...

playing tap through audio cable from phone
has anyone loaded a game from an android phone (using playZX) to a real 48k spectrum?
I tried with all the settings and the sound turned up to 100% but got nothing.

Re: Google bard vs ChatGPT
A person would have to theorise how the program is going to work and then try it out. An a.i. is trying to emulate us. If chatgpt could access a zx spectrum emulator and type it in and see the results it would be useful. Chatgpt seems to be like someone who just comes up with the first answer they c...

The +3 has a port for a 3.5 inch drive?
I'm just getting a rubber keyed one for nostalgia value.
Can't be bothered with 128k games ,I can just emulate them

Re: Transformers:redesigned
I did enjoy the overhead view of the first mask game.
The way the car handled seemed well done.
Anything like that could be a good game.
In an overhead view flying would have to be scrapped altogether.

Re: Transformers:redesigned
That's a great idea actually.
It seems like when they are cars they have weak guns or are incapable of firing. I haven't seen the cartoon in many years though.
But when they are robots they have guns axes etc
They need energon cubes,so flying could be expensive in terms of energy

I don't like any of those games
School daze is ok, a great technical achievement and lots of fun at first. But I like other games much more.
I don't rate the other games much.
The trap door is similar,it looks great, technically amazing...but it's just obscure puzzles...wandering about...

Not bad animations haha
Yeah I played the ocean one but it seemed rushed.
The game idea could be implemented in the first game's engine.
