Re: Per-pixel map scroller for ATM-Turbo compatibles
Thanks for the details. I looked at the source code more closely and it makes a bit more sense now. Now I'm thinking out the idea how to make applications not to spoil each other's screen. Maybe my assumptions are incorrect, but doesn't each application have access to the memory of all other running...

Re: Per-pixel map scroller for ATM-Turbo compatibles
This looks cool (the game and the scrolling engine). I have a character scrolling game that currently only targets 128K Spectrums, but it would be nice to have pixel scrolling on enhanced computers, if possible. (I don't yet know if it's feasible to try to support both NedoOS and the standard Spectr...

Re: Original WoS Pages Now Available
I noticed quite a few pages that are only available as archive.org snapshots if the 'loadpics=3' portion of the URL is removed. Maybe that part could be omitted if it's not necessary?

Rescue had enemies that would roam around the whole map, although their behaviour appears to be mostly random.

Re: New WoS and ZXDB
I would re-write the "acceptible use policies" for the database usage and specifically deny all use by Lee Fogarty and the WOS domain. That doesn't sound like a good idea at all, and it would go against the entire 'open' nature of the database. This situation reminds me of what happened w...

Re: New WoS and ZXDB
BTW about my last test, it was based on a list downloaded 2 days ago (June 16, 2020) from new WoS. If we run the same test using a list downloaded yesterday or today, there will be 1 difference, because this comment was edited yesterday: https://worldofspectrum.org/archive/software/text-adventures/...

Re: Fuse Emulator - Saving Snapshots
If there isn't any particular reason you need snapshots in .sna format, I would try .szx instead. The .sna format is probably too limited for the machine configuration you're using.

Re: UC San Diego taught a Spectrum coding class
With how low-level Spectrum programming is, it tends to be beneficial to have a sole individual working on the entire project. They can keep the whole structure in their head, and are able to work simultaneously on the bigger picture and the minute details. Teams have to keep everyone synchronized ...

Re: UC San Diego taught a Spectrum coding class
One interesting thing about these projects is that they are written by teams consisting of multiple programmers. While Spectrum games can still have multiple contributors, I get the impression that the majority of the programming is usually done by one person (plus Jonathan Cauldwell). Team projects...

I remember seeing something about this a few years ago, but I can't find the place where it was mentioned originally. This project seems to be from the same course: https://github.com/kbuzsaki/zdefense

Re: Wild Streets (Titus) bug, or incompatibility with +2A models?
It looks like this game was only tested using a Kempston joystick. Try pressing 'fire' on the joystick once you reach the end of the stage, and you should be taken to the next stage. With the keyboard it seems to be impossible. Does it work if you connect a Kempston joystick but chose to play with ...

Re: Cheetah Specdrum
So I do have version 2 of the tape, which is the updated one but sadly it still doesn't load properly and has no keyboard input. Could be a hardware issue or software. Oh, I didn't see your edit earlier. If you want to rule out the problem being with the software, you could record your tape and loa...

Re: Inkspector 2.0 released
I noticed that single-stepping doesn't seem to be possible if an interrupt is immediately about to occur. Is there some way to continue single-stepping when this happens? If I may make a suggestion: one feature that I would like to see is (optionally) letting the right shift key act as symbol shift,...

Re: Cheetah Specdrum
I found a couple of posts claiming that two versions of the software existed, the updated version being more compatible with later Spectrum models. I suppose it's possible that your version could be different from the one in the archive. Edit: https://archive.org/stream/crash-magazine-33/Crash_33_Oc...

Re: Cheetah Specdrum
Is this the same program as the one you were using? I can get it to load OK in an emulator without the keyboard becoming unresponsive. It resets if loaded in 128K mode, as the de-obfuscation routine relies on the printer buffer being empty (and subsequently corrupts the code if it isn't).

Re: The Definitive Programmer’s Guide to Using the Floating Bus Trick on the ZX Spectrum
A relatively simple method I use to distinguish a 128/+2 machine from a +2A/+3 is checking for the existence of port $3ffd. On the 128/+2 this port controls memory paging, so you can write to it and test known memory values in the $c000-$ffff range to see if they change. If they don't, then trying p...

Hmm. I'm a little busy right now, but let me see if I can come up with some better explanations later. Although I'm not completely familiar with all those tools you listed, I think the difference is that the sample-based trackers operate on samples (as the name would suggest), while this program ope...

Re: Digital AY synth
I've now added a scrolling (well, paging) tracker display synchronised with the music. You can try it here: synth-v0.1.0-0-g2bd8639_128.tap The problem is, the rendering speed is not great (even when the code is placed in uncontended memory) and this causes noticeable gaps in the song playback. Is ...

Very nice project :) I'm keen on trying it out on my real Spectrum. The scripts seem to be for Unix. Any idea of how I can build it on Windows? Or an already compiled version? The build scripts are designed to work on Windows as well. I should probably add some kind of README with build instruction...

Not on the Spectrum, but when I was looking at old episodes of '4 Computer Buffs', I found this original performance from around 1985 using Commie 64s.PeterJ wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 1:02 pm This is quite an interesting read:
