Re: Big Spectrum NEXT Update

Biggest news is that a replacement FPGA chip (Artix-7) needs to be sourced because the original chip (Spartan-6) is not available anymore. This might delay the whole production by another year. The team thinks they can get them faster than that but under the current circumstances I’d prepare for the...

Re: Way of the Exploding Fist on the Next

As a Next owner, I'm extremely disappointed with the information available about it. The forum is pretty quiet (and I won't touch Facebook). That's my feeling too. Luckily we still have a handful of regulars here who are active in the Next scene too. But if you go to the Next website and check the ...

Re: Was there an Emulator featuring RamTurbo Interface?

It doesn’t really make sense to me to offer a RAM Turbo interface as an option in an emulator... I owned one back in the days and it was great to have, but there is nothing really unique about what it offers. Essentially it’s a combination of an Interface II, Kempston joystick interface, and Cursor ...

Indeed great to see Ben back and I hope he succeeds in his ambition.

I bought some hardware from him in the past and the quality was always great. Can’t comment on the 3D printed cases though.

Re: Demo of R-Type from a magazine

Yes, I can remember when it came with an issue of Computer + Video Games magazine.

It contains the complete first level of R-Type. I played it to death and couldn’t wait to get my hands on the real game.

Finally an occasion where all that time that I spent reading those issues of Crash, YS and SU back to back has finally paid off.

Thanks for the great quiz once again, Greencard!

Re: The Arcade 100: DVD extras

Saying Space Invaders is rubbish, is the gaming equivalent of sneering about The Beatles. I know that drawings parallels between things that are so vastly different is bound to be flawed. But in this case I would rather make Space Invaders equivalent to Little Richard, Bill Haley, or Jerry Lee Lewi...

Re: Match Point, some thoughts...

In defense of Ann Hughes -- the woman quoted in the interview who did the graphics for Match Point, I have to say that the additional artwork is quite pretty for a game from 1984. https://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/127746-tournament-tennis-zx-spectrum-screenshot-loading-screen.png https://www....

Re: Match Point, some thoughts...

Of course, but still the similarities with the TI99 version are too great, which can hardly be a coincidence. Appearance of the players, ball boys, chair umpire, players bench do not leave much doubt. The game was released on TI99/4a in 1983, just at the time when Match Point was in development and...

Re: The Speccy Arcade 100

It's very different hammering a firing button with one hand compared to hammering it with your thumb or one finger while also steering with other fingers of the same hand. I'm curious what kind of joystick you've been using. Below is the joystick model that was sold everywhere in The Netherlands ba...

Re: Friday Quizzes: When?

Pick the moment that works best for yourself, @GreenCard. I imagine it takes quite some time to monitor the results in the first few hours after you posted a new quiz. Personally I enjoy these quizes very much. Sometimes I do have the time and participate. Sometimes I'm too late and still enjoy doin...

The menu music of Monty on the Run . I like the game, and the menu tune starts quite okay with the lower notes but when the higher notes kick in it sounds just screetching. Re: Games that failed to load

Travel With Trashman, I bought it cheap at some fair. It has a turboloader with very high speed and it refused to load all the time. Up until today I've never seen it running. Also Tomahawk with its very high pitched loading scheme was quite irratic. And when it loaded you had to pass the Lenslok se...
