Re: ZXDB Update 23/04/2021
How does Spectrum Computing feel about sourcing screenshots from elsewhere to use here? I can probably fill any final gaps with images from https://www.specnext.com/software-directory/ the SpecNext games directory. ZXDB has no requirements for "exclusivity", so using these images would be...

Re: Currencies
Ah... see the additional file downloads - the scan of the book cover shows $1.95. Good point! I didn't notice it. Now we can be sure the price is USD, since the price is directly printed in the book that was printed in US. And... the publisher is not Dragon, but Scholastic Inc which is United State...

Re: Little bugs in the database 4
Books in the Micro Adventure series were published by Scholastic Inc instead of Dragon, according to Wikipedia . These books are also copyrighted to Parachute Press together with the authors. Perhaps it should be added as team_id on each author? I could not find any reference to Dragon anywhere. Ev...

Also any idea what's the currency for these prices? Micro Adventure 8: The Big Freeze - $1.95 The remark states: "Translated into Portuguese in 1985 (Cz$ 15,00)" Thanks, but the Brazilian re-release wasn't an issue. The problem is the original price "$1.95". Both author and publ...

I suppose all prices in "dinarjev" refer to Yugoslav dinar (YUD) that existed between 1966 and 1989: Ali Baba - 990 dinarjev Bajke - 2500 dinarjev Eurorun - 1490 dinarjev INES: Urejevalnik Podatkov, Slik in Besedil - 900 dinarjev Kontrabant - 700 dinarjev Kontrabant 2 - 1200 dinarjev Macek...

Re: Currencies
Also we can have release price in one currency and budget price in other one. We don't have any case like this. But I'm planning to modify this structure anyway, as part of the changes to support multiple “editions” within the same release (mentioned in the ZXDB roadmap ). Anyway, can anybody tell ...

About this title: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/25157/ZX-Spectrum/Fysikh_B_Gymnasioy I'm guessing "drh" means Greek drachma, although "drh" doesn't seem to be an official abbreviation for it. Is my assumption correct? And not just that, there are a few problems with the ...

Re: Currencies
Good, but one major flaw, if a currency symbol is prefixed or suffixed is not dependent on the currency code, but on the country and / or language. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_sign In English, the sign precedes the value (for instance, €10); in most other European languages, the reverse ...

Your Computer covertapes?
According to Martijn's WoS, games Red Ants and Pinbat were originally published on Your Computer magazine covertape. However I identified their type-in listings (you can see them now under "Magazine References"). Moreover I found no evidence Your Computer even had covertapes, except for th...

Re: New Database Model ZXDB
In the last ZXDB update, we added a new column "currency_id" in table "releases". This new column allows ZXDB to adopt a standard format for prices. You can already see it in action for instance here: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/722/ZX-Spectrum/Bubble_Bobble Now when yo...

Re: Tips on searching
I took the liberty to simplify machine options in advanced search. I hope this behaviour will be more intuitive now. The problem with this is you can no longer find the programs which were in the 16/48 Category (E.G. supposedly 2 versions) from the advanced search so these entries can no longer be ...

Re: Tips on searching
I own a 48K Zx Spectrum, so when I use the ZXDB engine is because I want to watch games that can be loaded by my Spectrum, so I think that 48K means "Games that are loaded into a Zx Spectrum 48K", regardless if also works in a 16K, or was designed for 128K, or whatever. But that's IMHO I ...

Re: Tips on searching
If the authors took the effort to create distinct versions for 16K and 48K, even without extra features, it's because they considered it was worth it. The Auto Line Number utility is a good example. I think our classification should reflect this information. Sorry @Einar Saukas but that is not the ...

Re: Tips on searching
And what about this Machine Type? "ZX Spectrum 128K (load in USR0 mode)" For me, this information shouldn't be as a part of the machine type at all. Maybe special Group/Feature would be better for these titles? I agree with that. It's not a machine type. We do need to remember that much o...

Re: Tips on searching
I suspect the real concern is not how ZXDB classifies these titles. The actual problem is how site search works. Perhaps something like this: When users search for "Spectrum 16K", they want to see all titles that would work on a Spectrum 16K. Therefore SC should list titles created specifi...

Your defination also states: It typically means a program distributed in 2 different versions (a smaller version for 16K, a more complete version for 48K). Notice I wrote "typically" instead of "exclusively". This was intended as a typical example for the definition in the previ...
