Re: Learn vintage electronic / computer engineering at 2019.
For dabbling with logic gates, microprocessors, etc., I highly recommend Ben Eater’s video series on how to build an 8-bit computer. It’s very detailed and quite easy to follow.

Re: Which models to get / avoid, and which accessory for game ROMs
That’s a tough question. There are some incompatibilities between the models. While later game titles took them into account and ran on all Spectrums, some earlier games might not work on a +2 or +2A. That said, those are few and far between, and fixed versions of the original games (including sever...

If your job interferes with your Spectrum programming, I think it’s obvious you need to quit your job.

Re: I built a game in BASIC
Hehe the irony is not lost on me, editing a game built in a zx spectrum so it works on a zx spectrum emulator :-) Well, it’s not so much the fault of an emulator as one of the quirks of the Spectrum itself. Some emulators have an option of enabling or disabling the pre–Issue 3 Spectrum keyboard beh...

Re: I built a game in BASIC
I just tried this, on ZXDS. Looks nice but it doesn't respond to the suggested controls. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? No, but you could play around with the Issue 2 Keyboard feature, if the emulator has it. The keyboard polling in the game should be changed from polling ports and expecting a ...

Re: I built a game in BASIC
It is sweet . . . on a 48K machine, but requires too many additional keypresses on 128K machines. I get impatient somewhere between U and N . In true type-in style, it's 48K mode only, 128K gives the "SPECTRUM" text issue. Haven’t noticed it yet. The SPECTRUM and PLAY tokens only take up ...

Looks really good. It like the gameplay and the color scheme!

Re: +3, no sound from tape at all, with board additions!
Since I own several Spectrums, I made a universal lead for use with either of them. It has TRS plugs on either end. The sleeve (ground) of each end is wired to the sleeve of the other, but the other conductor connects the ring terminal on one end and the tip on the other. If I’m loading a game into ...

Re: +3, no sound from tape at all, with board additions!
I don’t have a +3, but I do own a +2A, in which I modded the input jack copying the way it is wired on a +3. I can easily load games into it using either my MacBook and my iPhone, even if the volume is not all the way up. Keep in mind that Apple hardware usually outputs a slightly hotter audio signa...

Other than his DNA on the keyboards and the cases, there’s no personal data stored on any of these devices. You need not worry.

Re: 3D Chess 2K18
The bishop looks fine to me. The top of the rook is a little weird. Some of the battlement ridges look too spiky. And the white knight’s mouth still looks a little cartoony. The black knight looks okay.
