Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with R: vote

Going through those screen shots brought back a lot of memories, I would love to be 11 years old again and rushing home from school to fire up the Spectrum to play some of those. The game that jumped out for me on seeing the screen shots was Road Runner, I’d long forgotten about that one, but now I’...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with R: discussion

After sitting out of the Q vote due to not knowing any of the games, I’m going to have to do a bit of thinking to decide what to vote here. The ones that jumped out straight away were, Robin of the Wood, Renegade, Rampage, R-Type and err, Rock Star Ate My Hamster, spent so many hours playing those g...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with O: discussion

My +2 from Curry’s came with a couple of, “O” games, which I think were the best of the 10 received that Christmas morning, competition was pretty low it has to be said. Oh Mummy – very simple game with basic graphics, that was probably my favourite of the games that came with the Spectrum. Was quit...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with N: discussion

Of the list the only one I recall playing, and one I really liked, was Nigel Mansell’s Grand Prix and I see that it was by Martech, whom I thought, “I’ve never heard of them,” when I saw the post about their first and last games – clearly I must have though, seen as I owned this game! 'Tis the curs...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with N: discussion

It amazes me each time the game selection for these polls goes up and I’ve hardly heard of any of them. I played the spectrum loads in my youth and had a serious amount of games, as did my neighbour. Just shows how many were actually produced for the machine. Of the list the only one I recall playin...

As much as I realise Manic Miner is a classic, iconic and groundbreaking game in its day, I voted for Match Day 2. It is a game from my time with the +2 that I remember waiting to be released, and which I definitely was not disappointed in when I got my hands on it, played it for hours and hours. Al...

Star Wars was always the machine I wanted to see in the games room of any hotel we stayed at on holiday in the early/mid-80s.

Re: Every cover of Crash, in one image...

What amazes me is that the covers I remember really well, I assume from the ones I purchased, cover quite a short time span, basically a year and a half. Yet thinking back my memory is of Crash being a huge part of my early teens. Funny how great an impact things make on you at that age – probably w...

There are three 007 games beggining with L: - Licence to Kill - Linving Daylights, The - Live and Let Die The only 007 game I've played a lot it's been A View to a Kill, none of the above though, so do you think it's worth including these three games in the poll? I had the Living Daylights back in ...

Jack the Nipper is the one that jumps out at me from that list. Not only did I love the game, but the comic strip in Your Sinclair was a definite favourite part of that magazine. A game where being naughty was the aim certainly appealed to me as child. The cartoon graphics were great and the game pl...

I have no recollection of International Match Day. I remember playing the original a lot and then the exciting build up until the release of Match Day II. But International Match Day must have completely passed me by. I assume it must have come out near the end of games manufacturing on the Spectrum?

As for a, “proper,” golf game, Leaderboard is the only one that I can recall playing.

My memory of Gauntlet is more about it always being at the top of the readers charts in Crash magazine. To my mind it was there for years, but that probably is more about how time was much slower as a child, and the reality was it was only on top for a month or two (?) Of the games there, Grand Prix...

Went for Formula One, spent a lot of time playing that against the Spectrum, and against friends on occasion. Could lose whole afternoons to completing a couple of seasons of that. But it was a tough choice as I could say the same for Football Manager. While Fantasy World Dizzy was my favourite of t...

Re: What makes you continue your Spectrum interest?

Is all nostalgia for my childhood really, from about 11 to 15 computer games on my spectrum were a huge part of life. I also got a Sega Mastersystem at 14, but caught the music bug at 15 and lost interest in both machines. Since then computers only really figured in my life for University purposes a...

1. Match Day 2 2. Footballer of the Year 3. Football Manager 4. Nigel Mansell’s Grand Prix 5. Re: Poll: Manic Miner vs Jet Set Willy

Back in the day I preferred JSW, seemed so much more to it and each game could be different, depending on where you go. Nowadays I am quite likely to play MM, as I can have a quick game and see how many screens I can complete before moving on to something else. JSW just seems a bit to open ended for...

Codemasters are definitely the software house I associate most with my spectrum days, the +2 being my first computer means I obviously wasn’t there at the beginning when the classic early games had their greatest impact. I enjoyed the top down simulators, whether they were on a BMX, a Jet-Ski or in ...

I had Feud, and have to admit I couldn’t get anywhere with it, no matter how many times I played it. Have been surprised when reading on the internet recently that one of its shortcomings was that it was too easy! I’ll put it on my list of games to play when I get my Next, see if I can manage it thi...
