Re: £12 gets you "Free software for LIFE!", apparently.

Yes he does. Lol, yes, I went for a quick Google and found numerous links that are very likely to be Mr Fry. Likes a bit of gardening these days, too. :) But anyway... I sure didn't intend or wish to embarrass anyone for something they did approaching 40 years ago, or even if they still do it now: ...

Loving the self-important letters after names in the cassette, too. Do people still do this?! I did it for a few months after graduating, mid-1990s. Now, the memory of having done so makes me cringe!

Re: Could Knight Lore have been (a lot) faster?

Dunno about frame rate locking, that's good in action games but when you're already running at pretty low frame rates it might not be entirely desirable. Not sure I agree. Consider Manic Miner: perhaps it could've run faster on some screens, or slower on others. Who knows? But would that have been ...

Could Knight Lore have been (a lot) faster?

I’ve always respected the technological achievement that Knight Lore represented but damn if it wasn’t slow when there was a lot going on in a room. So, I wonder… using modern techniques / new understandings, could Knight Lore be rewritten to run much faster on original hardware. Sure, I know there ...

Thiis is fabulous. I wonder why we've never seen games like this (that I know of, at least)? But I agree with a previous comment here, that it has Sonic speed but with Mario mechanics... it's just a bit too tricky.

Nope. Perhaps this is proving harder than I thought! Though admittedly, I anticipated at least some of the above guesses. I guess there were a lot of yellow games on the Spectrum.

Re: Trying to recall an arcade game…

Maybe this one? Jumping Cross. Thanks, but no. It's the right year (1984... 85/86 at the *very latest*) but the game I'm trying to recall was purely top-to-bottom scrolling. I recall the mud being quite the obstacle, and it could properly slow you down. The game felt like a challenging 'slog', rath...

Thanks, but sadly not. Again, similar — but there were no pseudo 3D bits in the game I’m trying to recall.

Re: Trying to recall an arcade game…

I found Rally Bike, which looks kinda similar to what I remember but this is 1988, so definitely not it. It’s also way faster than the game I’m trying to recall…
