Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

Hi @bob_fossil, A few days ago, in the ZX-Uno Telegram group, mcleod_ideafix shared the LOADTAP command for esxDOS which is used to load .TAP files at normal speed. The operation is like LOADPZX , although only these keys are useful: F7: PLAY/PAUSE of the virtual player. F9: STOP of the player (PLA...

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?

With respect to those difficult demoscene secrets about the cpc hardware, you should not believe everything that you see in the internet. The only demoscene tricks that are useful for games were well-known during the 80s (double buffer, vertical rupture and scroll hardware). Even the two first cpc ...

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?

The CPC, like the Spectrum, was oriented towards the business market. Thus, it lacked better video hardware for games. They were oriented towards screen character handling. But the Spectrum video implementation was using so little memory that the CPU could do more with less. Exactly. Amstrad simply...

Here is someone's CPC vs Spectrum games comparison and also nice set of best homebrew titles.
I played that #1 Orion Prime p&c adventure, an amazing quality game.

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?

A lot of valid arguments have already been given, here are some of my toughts. I agree, that one of the main reasons for not buying a CPC machine during the 80s was the late appearance on the market and also the price. Spectrum and C64 firmly held their positions and had a large user base, and soon ...

Re: Metal Exile (Formally Hypercore)

Not directly/easily but converting it should be possible. I'm designing it to use Spectrum colour restrictions and will be using Spectrum music, but I'll probably use more particles and sprites on screen than real hardware could handle, but those are just effects mostly and could be removed from a ...

Re: Guess the game from the review (Spectrum 2.0)

I've never read any review but I'll throw something in. Sam Stoat Safebreaker? No, this is a classic platformer, let's say similar to the Gotcha which was mentioned before, but this is a well-known game, highly rated here on SC. Also, this isn't some modern homebrew title, I'm only considering game...

Re: Android tv box as a ZX Spectrum machine

This post is mostly to gather some information and kearn the opinions of experienced users. In theory a frontend and a good emulator in a android TV box could work like a spectrum (with external keyboard). Most boxes have the power to handle emulation. You had to make the frontend with the game lis...

No, its not Gotcha.
It's also arcade platformer, but much more advanced, with top graphics and super smooth animation.
Each level is a static screen, which needs to be cleared to move on to the next one.
One of the best Spectrum budget games, for sure.

It looks promising. I like TRS-80 for several reasons, it was the first available home computer in my coun...
