Re: ZX Spectrum Next Discussion
I have to say that I disagree about any similarities between the Vega+ campaign and the Spectrum Next. I never wanted a Vega+ and I'm certainly glad I didn't back it. The whole project should have stopped as soon as the only two people who knew what they were doing left. The so-called "updates&...

Cheat mode in Super Robin Hood (Codemasters)?
I've tried to keep this relatively ramble-free and coherent but essentially: Is there a cheat mode in Super Robin Hood that no-one's found yet? (And do the Oliver Twins really like the Spec? ;-)) OK... the longer version: I saw a video earlier today which mentioned a built-in cheat mode for Ghost Hu...

Re: Info regarding media - e.g. tape/disk/ROM cartridge etc?
Cheers, Einar! I thought it probably would be stored in ZXDB but it would great if Spectrum Computing could display it. I occasionally come across stuff like games on disk that have no reference to +3 versions on WOS but since the info there hasn't been updated in years (yeah, I know... like a stuck...

Info regarding media - e.g. tape/disk/ROM cartridge etc?
Sorry if this is covered somewhere already but I did have a quick search and wasn't able to find a thread that seemed to answer my question. I don't know if my query relates to ZXDB or whether it actually relates to the Spectrum Computing site but I assume that the site displays all the info that is...

Re: Questprobe comics
I owned a copy of Spider-Man so I can say with absolute certainty that it came with a comic book but having had another look online, I couldn't find a single copy of The Hulk that came with a comic book so I'm not so sure now that it did come with one. I assumed it did because the Spidey game had bu...

Re: Questprobe comics
Someone may correct me but I'm pretty sure only the first two actually came with a comic. The Fantastic Four one came in a double cassette case as well so there'd be no space for a comic, unlike with the larger boxes that were used for Hulk and Spidey. I've had a fairly good look online and can't fi...

Too many Lode Runners!!
There have been a couple of posts on WOS recently about Lode Runner and they got me digging through my own notes I'd made when I converted my copy. I thought it had all been sorted back in 2011 but it looks like the two sides of the tape weren't added to the archive so it's a bit messy and there's a...

Sharpshooter is the Kobrahsoft one from this thread on WOS (which you may remember, Ralf?)

Re: Screenshot fixes
I think it’s best to take ZXDB for what it is—a database , rather than a preservation archive. Some compromises have to be made. I agree but aren't the screenshots we're talking about just those that are hosted by Spectrum Computing (i.e. part of the archive here), they're not actually part of zxdb...

Re: Screenshot fixes
Maybe some of us don't bin their samples after they've converted them to TZXes and maybe they have hard drives rammed to the gills with RARed up samples, just in case they come in handy at some point in the future. Just sayin'... ;) Also, as much as I try not to mention "that other place" ...

Re: Cover artists
Thanks! I'm adding all this information to ZXDB. However I'm having trouble to identify the following titles: The Centurions: Power X Treme Centurions: Power Xtreme is an alternate name for The Centurions by Reaktor. Apparently it's what the TV show was called... maybe... if Wikipedia is correct. D...

Re: Cover artists
Kweepa seems to have covered pretty much all of them but I've got a couple more signatures: Zaxxan is Oli Frey - his signature has ZX Spectrum 48k slapped over the top of it on the inlay but is visible on the full page ad for the game Same again for Starstrike - his signature is visible on the botto...

Re: Cover artists
Jasper! is by Paul Cemmick https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Cemmick His signature is on the bottom left of the cover but isn't very clear. On the magazine ads they put text over the top of it but I eventually worked out what it was through some trial and error! Here's a clearer example of his sign...

Re: Cover artists
I can't speak for Kweepa (obviously!) but I think crediting the loading screen to Brian Bolland doesn't sound right. The cover artwork is by Mike McMahon and it could be argued that the loading screen is based on an image by Brian Bolland but that might be stretching it a bit. It's not an exact copy...

Re: Cover artists
I'd say the cover was Mike McMahon too. The credit on the instructions says "from an original design by Brian Bolland" but doesn't say he actually drew it. It doesn't look like his style and there's the fact that it is a perfect match for the cover of 2000AD Prog 148. Here's a larger versi...

Re: Converting .dsk to tap with dsk2tap
I think you probably converted it fine looking at your screenshots. Here's what I did anyway just in case it's any help... (1) Converted the Castlevania disk image to a tap file: dsk2tap newcastleENGLISH.dsk new.tap (pretty much what you did as far as I can tell) (2) Then in Spectaculator I created ...

Re: Cover artists
OK, how about another classic comic strip character from Melbourne House? The cover art for Asterix and the Magic Cauldron is by Albert Uderzo (who else?) :) Oh, and both Garfield games have Jim Davis' signature on the cover too (although a lot of his stuff is most likely done "in house" b...

Re: The Oliver Twins
That's really good news for the site and big respect to the twins for giving their permission to host the games here. I'm assuming that some of the titles are ones that they own the rights to rather than ones they actually programmed themselves (e.g. some of the Dizzy spin-offs/later titles etc)?

Re: Cover artists
Comic book artist Jackson Guice (also sometimes known as Jackson "Butch" Guise) did the cover for Skyfox. The original Electronic Arts release on other platforms apparently came with a mini comic and he's credited on there (as Butch Guise). http://www.mobygames.com/game/skyfox http://www.m...

Re: Game art copied from elsewhere
I had a quick look and couldn't find the exact source image that was used but I can't help but think that the cover artist for Kosmos may have relied just a tad on Marvel's "Rom: Spaceknight" comic for inspiration here. https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/pub/sinclair/games-inlays/k/Kosmos.jpg

Re: Cover artists
Definitely agree on the multiple roles being recorded separately. It's pretty common if you watch the credits on a movie to see people getting namechecked tons of times if they've worked on several areas during the production. I'm not sure if it's what you're suggesting but I think trying to categor...

I may have skimmed this thread a bit quickly so apologies if I've misunderstood anything but I pretty much agree with Rorthron. The people who worked on the game should be in one group (programmers, graphics artists, sound/music, etc) and people who worked on the cover art or in any other capacity s...
