Re: Impossible games...
I thought it was a hard game but I thought it was similar to jet set willy where you just need to learn patterns.

Re: When tapes fail due to age
The volume on the tape recorder seems ok.
If there is no ear wire in it it's unbearably loud. Like can be heard three rooms away.
I'll look into refelting
Most games load ok so dunno about the azimuth or if it has a screw to adjust that.
Is there any visual indication that the felt is bad?

When tapes fail due to age
I tried loading a tape, I could hear the noises but the coloured bars didn't appear. Is this because the tape degraded over time or maybe could be the tape recorder or something else?

Re: C5 cautionary tale
What if it had a similar form factor to a bike? I think the main complaint being that a truck driver wouldn't see you in a C5, so a good chance of you being smeared into the tarmac. You'd not be able to use them on the pavement either. So the type of neighbourhood where you could pop down the shops ...

The later ultima games were like this.
Just thought I'd comment on the screenshots.
The Jetsons would look great if it had colour.
The game at the very top same comment.
That breakout game was terrible, but impressive programming

Re: ZX Gaming Survey
I was going to start a thread similar to this so I'll just post here: I like RPGs and get the urge to make a bard's tale type game for the spectrum. I assume it would get no reward whatsoever as I myself have not played any of the big RPGs for the spectrum released after 2005, which is shocking.e.g....

Lol that would be cool to see the code on the screen actually... even if it's just dots.
It would be funny to change the colour of the byte when it is being executed.

Re: ChesSkelet: micro chess program - 363 Bytes
So the a.i. only compares one move. Considering you have about 42,000 bytes left you could implement min max algorithm :) to make it really hard - lol Out of interest how long does it take to load 350 bytes from tape? I suppose you could put code in the screen memory as most of the screen is unused,...

Re: Did actual game code get bigger as game machines evolved? (Excluding graphics and audio)
I would've thought that there would be a slight reduction in code for sixteen bit games due to there being more instructions that can do more. For example it's probably easier to use a sixteen bit number to represent a sprites X co-ordinate on a sixteen bit computer. Due to there being a need for su...

Interesting if there's really much difference between snes and nes Mario except graphics, level data, and the snes version had lots of text . The code governing Mario's movement and collision detection is probably very similar and all you do is run to the right. Super Mario Sunshine is probably very...

I don't fancy opening them but the bad one has pink rainbow capacitors and the good one has black capacitors. Maybe the black ones are modern? I don't know. Other than that they look identical when looking into that expansion hole. I think both circuit boards are green on the back and yellow on the ...

How about the a.i. for Lords of chaos? (Just kidding guys) It seems like advances are being made. Wouldn't mind knowing how the a.i. makes decisions. But I think the consensus was it was custom code per scenario and pretty dumb . I.e. the dalek thing that you see down the corridor to the right when ...
