Re: New File Browser for ZX-UNO
Keen eyed viewers will note that the .dot and .sys files are now just stubs which load in the new BROWSE.BIN file. I was running out of space in the ,dot command RAM bank so I've moved the code into normal RAM to give me more room (32768 onwards). Does this cause problems if you launch the NMI wind...

Re: Rotronics Wafadrive Unboxing
I used to have one in the 80s before I bought my +3. Loved it. I used the Centronics interface a lot for printing stuff. I found it very reliable, although the anecdotal consensus seems to be that microdrive cartridges survive into the present day a bit better. They work on the Next too, btw. The ta...

I agree with all three points.

Re: Next screenshot format
NXI format is easily dumpable, but only represents one of the many layers of the Next display. A NXI dump of almost any running game will not give you anything close to a screenshot.

Excellent! I Look forward to checking out the skeleton project on github.
You can define your own F keys in ZEsarUX. Either through the menus or, as I prefer to do for build script consistency, on the command line. I have this in mine:

Re: Starting a SpecNext emulator for development?
To copy files or folders into an image you can use hdfmonkey. This builds for win/Mac/Linux. I use hdfmonkey command lines in my windows build scripts. I agree about KISS, but there are different kinds of simplicity. Already you are using a ZEsarUX nex loader which doesn’t match the one used to load...

Re: Starting a SpecNext emulator for development?
CSpect accepts many command line args, including those for starting in Next mode and supplying a NEX file. Have a read of the readme, as it explains them in detail. There’s also a few same batch files supplied for launching various demos. These would be very similar in linux, except that you start ....

Re: CSpect V2.12.22
It does trigger a W32.Malware.Gen alert in mine though. Like I say, take these alerts with a massive pinch of salt. They're worth almost nothing, and Mike scans everything he publishes for actual viruses. I add exclusions for every CSpect version, and have never once had any reason to believe my mac...

Re: Testing emulators using z80test-1.0. Quick results
Yes. The tests will pass on NMOS Z80s that are genuine Zilog, They may pass on some second-sourced from designs officially provided by Zilog (Mostek). They may fail on others second-sourced from designs officially provided by Zilog (SGS), reverse-engineered Z80s (some E.European/Russian), or officia...

Re: New File Browser for ZX-UNO
SD card corruption To set your mind at rest Bob, I now don't think the card got corrupted. My working theory is that something stomped on divMMC RAM, which stopped any further card operations working till a full power off. There's something wrong with my Cisco +3 replacement power supply which leav...

If they’re regularly spaced marks it can also be crud on the pinch roller. I think I’ve seen that in the past.

Re: New File Browser for ZX-UNO
First off, apologies for breaking your SD card. No problem, I have lots of cards, and it's easy to repair or reformat any broken ones :) This byte mode 256MB card is also FAT16, with a single partition, so perhaps this is the problem. I will try with FAT32 on the same card, and a larger block mode ...

Re: New File Browser for ZX-UNO
You should put it into /BIN folder. esxDOS and divMMC(in zxuno) are the same as on usual speccy. It should work as I understand. It launches fine in the /BIN folder on my +3 with esxDOS 0.8.6, and my Next running esxDOS 0.8.6 in non-Next personalities. However it hangs on the +3 when I try to launc...

Re: New File Browser for ZX-UNO
Only issue I see is that its called the same as an existing dotcommand on the Next, .BROWSE on the Next initiates the build in browser. Thanks for the kind words. I wasn't aware of a clash as I don't have a Next. :) At the risk of it ending up being called .browseymcbrowseface , I'm open to new nam...

When I did it I wrote the key maps manually using the emulator author’s own documentation, which seems accurate: http://www.8bit-wiki.de/index.php?id=3& ... e277f60000

Re: A request from a ZX Vega owner.
I haven’t tried his particular game, but the mapping mechanism works well enough, and I haven’t yet found anything that can’t be mapped. It is a bit time consuming to get it right, I’ll grant that.
My Vega is packed away somewhere and I’m not sure where.

Re: A request from a ZX Vega owner.
It’s really easy to write a keymap file to map any key to any of the Vega buttons. Honestly I don’t think new software authors are giving much consideration to an out of production emulator which will never get a second production run or a software update. But fortunately the emulator author allowed...

Re: CSpect V2.12.22
It’s been happening right since Mike released the first Next version of CSpect a few years ago. They really don’t like that that he obfuscates to protect his intellectual property. I’m guessing that at some point a virus writer used the same obfuscater he uses, and the sloppy virus checkers are just...

Re: CSpect V2.12.22
There’s no malware in CSpect and nothing to fix. Some virus checkers with aggressive heuristics give false positives for independently released software with lots of different versions, for obfuscated dot net software, packed exes, or software not signed with the type of cert you can only get as an ...

I think it’s a client/server pair, so don’t you just choose a port for the server and tell the client to connect to the chosen port?
