Short beeper routines in assembly
I always end up using the same spot effects, usually nabbed from the DKTronics SoundFX tape. I know we've got BeepFX for the more elaborate ones, but I thought this would be a good place to share shortish beeper routines people can use. Here's a simple zap. ; zap: ld d,16 ;speaker = bit 4 ld e,0 ;di...

Yeah the Ocean forum around that time was one hell of a read.

Re: Sub forums for the Programming section
Wait and see sounds good to me too (bearing in mind we don't have a single post there yet!) My preference is just to have 'Programming' though, I've always found it easy enough to find the threads needed, there is often a lot of crossover anyway, and it caters for weirdo fringe stuff like Specbas. O...

Hello all!
But you're slacking a bit these days aren't you?Alessandro wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 11:25 am Hi everyone, I just found this forum and decided to join in!
I have been a proud Spectrum user since January 1984, wrote a 702-pages book about it, and every now and then produce some games to boot.
Cheers!

Re: Demoscene subforum
I'd like to see more Demos, but my two pence is that for now they belong under Brand New Software. If loads get posted then create another forum but only then.
Shocking to think that the Western Europe demoscene is comprised of gasman as far as I know, and I think he's otherwise occupied these days.

Like it Ralf. Was going to say "you never see fighting games or big sprites these days", but Sword of IANNA keeps spoiling it every time I want to say something like that! Is there a lot more to do on the player's moves? Unless you're sticking faithfully to Hippodrome I'd like to see a Spe...

Re: Edge Grinder for the Spectrum
Thanks for the tips Joe and Hikaru, they'll need some processing time (in my head not the z80). If you need the AY routine to be called at 50fps but don't want to wait for HALTs, why not just call it from within the interrupt handler itself? Your music might go iffy I suppose if you DI for too long,...

The current set up is the phpBB default. When the dust settles the plan is to change the header and overall look of the forum to something more Spec-friendly.

Hi! I'm Juan, from Málaga, Spain. I'm a proud Spectrum owner since 1985. I've been posting on WoS forums from more than 10 years and now also here. Seems another cool place to talk about our beloved little computer. I love posting about Spectrum games and I think we'll have a great time here! Sabre...

Re: Edge Grinder for the Spectrum
It's a really good engine. You have a chance to make a second Zynaps :) There was definitely some talk of how you could do it, back when the game originally came out for the C64 and CPC. Don't remember anyway actually starting it though. Looking forward to seeing how it comes out. :) Cheers...

Or shall we just not do this here? I'd really rather we didn't. We don't want SC to turn into a place to slag off WoS or the Vega. The forum guidelines, and the whole drive of Spectrum Computing is to set a positive tone. I'm here because we have a site that is hosting new software, not enough of i...

Yep I'm a backer. I deliberated until the deadline loomed and went for the Next Accelerated. I'm looking forward to having something close enough to a real Speccy that I don't (at least I bloody hope not) have to worry about plugging in. I think my ideal product would be essentially be a mock 128k s...

I didn't have any problems all day, then in the last hour I started to get the certification error. Just cleared cookies and I can log in without the same warnings but it still says certificate error at the top of the screen. Weird.
