Re: What happened to the permission slips?

You can't post private communications (such as emails) on a public site. Especially now, with privacy regulations adopted in most countries. ;) Yes, I would say that when I wrote responses to people who were requesting permission to include my games on WOS, many many years ago, I hadn't expected th...

Re: Dates for ZxZvm "disks"

Again, I understand your point. So how can we do better? If it were me, I would list them as downloads on the ZxZvm entry; rather than individual entries in the database. They aren't official releases of games, they're just timesaving disks, put together by a third-party, of files to use with ZxZvm...

Re: What happened to the permission slips?

The permission responses quite often included lots of useful information, such as some comments about the games and their development, and usually email addresses. It was a shame that the decision was taken elsewhere not to share the key information from them (such as date obtained, scope of permiss...

Re: Dates for ZxZvm "disks"

I also think this information looks weird... although it's accurate! I can't agree with the fact it's accurate. It is not. These homemade third-party "compilation" disks were not published in the year indicated. And they were not, in most cases, officially published by the organisations o...

Putting aside the dates issue for one moment, and the fact that the "original publishers" never published these ZxZvm versions, there are also major issues with some of the other publishers listed. For example... The Mysterious Adventures... https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/32382/ZX-S...

Re: Dates for ZxZvm "disks"

The fact is, if I search "text adventures" published in "1983" then I get Infidel by Infocom sitting in the middle of that list.

That *is* a nonsensical search result, without context.

Re: Dates for ZxZvm "disks"

Well, it Is virtual machine at all. When I load Chuckie Egg into emulator, I don't care when was the emulator built. The way it's presented in the database at the moment makes it appear that these are official releases by Infocom with those dates. It is confusing. (I know it's confusing, because an...

Dates for ZxZvm "disks"

There are a lot of games in the database that run using Z-machine, the virtual machine created by Infocom, and later targeted by modern adventure writing systems such as Inform. They've been put onto disks that use the excellent ZxZvm to run them on the +3. For example... https://spectrumcomputing.c...

Re: New license clarification for CP/M

It's not totally moot, if you're looking at commercially distributing CP/M software for the Spectrum +3. For example, the Hibernated 1 Director's Cut was sold together with a license for Locomotive's CP/M, because it uses a CP/M-based Z-machine interpreter.

Re: New license clarification for CP/M

I do love CP/M. Technically I guess this doesn't really apply to the Locomotive implementation of CP/M, as used on the +3 and the Amstrad machines, which will still be their copyright and require licensing. But people could code a new version of the operating system for the Spectrum that could be mo...

Re: Colour Beyond Time - Full game released.

Do you use x message in 128k for example? Yeah, I'm pretty sure you do as I haven't gone back and altered my DAAD source for the game I had running on +3 with DAAD/MALUVA in that way. (Apart from commenting out the Maluva extension bit at the start). +3 worked ok, but it's very slow on emulator as ...

Re: Colour Beyond Time - Full game released.

Does that mean at the moment you can't complile for 128k? I did try but got an out of ram error. No, you can compile to the new 128K interpreter but there is at least one outstanding bug that has issues with indefinite articles etc. I've not used the picture support side of things myself. If you're...

Okay. I'll play about with that example. I'll just clear your existing code from my editor. The code you sent me runs fine in Adventuron when I made the changes I suggested. (By compile, do you mean compile in DAAD? Or just run in Adventuron?) Edit: I'm guessing you mean in DAAD, as that example als...
