Re: Unnecessary inclusions in games
Halls of the Things was especially bad in that regard with about a bazillion keys (great game though). Talking about unnecessary inclusions, the sword in Hall of the Things was probably the most useless weapon - did anyone ever use it? If you got close enough to a Thing to try to use your sword, yo...

Had to answer a LOT of questions for this. I suspected as much when the loader has a whole bunch of "Character array: " blocks.

Re: "Alfa Een" Afrikaans adventure game
Wow, that must be one of the more obscure titles I've seen mentioned round these parts. Any idea roughly how many copies might have been made/sold? No idea about the game I'm afraid but good luck with the search - this possibly beats the search for that decades-long obscure Finnish Golf game (that w...

Re: Unnecessary inclusions in games
Atic Atac - the objects in the game (other than keys) have a use, but it's just not worth bothering picking them up as you only have three item slots and keys are infinitely more useful. Knight Lore (and a whole load of other games!) - the time limit. There's no need for it. After a while it become...

Re: Super Sonic Bros. Fast scrolling platform game which tries to not look like a ZX game
Looks cool - 4-pixel scroll is very smooth-looking. 8-) Only thing I found is that it feels like Sonic style momentum (and style) but the level I played seems to require Mario-style precision. It looks good but I found the controls a bit tricky. I had about 10 goes and couldn't get past the tube/wat...

Re: List of Z80 coding articles in Your Sinclair/ Sinclair User / Crash magazines
I got an email the other day saying that Andrew was about to start a Kickstarter to produce a book containing all those articles. Ah yes I recall seeing something on Twitter about a Kickstarter from Mr Hewson, though I don't tend to pay much attention to Kickstarters. Also I've been trying to reduc...

Re: List of Z80 coding articles in Your Sinclair/ Sinclair User / Crash magazines
Ah cool, a while back I was actually wondering the same thing.
For example didn't Andrew Hewson do a regular column for SU for a bit? I was always wondering whether there was a compilation of any of this sort of magazine articles without having to trawl through the contents of each issue.

Re: The pips
At 8 am on 17 September 2008, to the surprise of John Humphrys, the day's main presenter on the Today programme, and Johnnie Walker, who was standing in for Terry Wogan on Radio 2, the pips went "adrift" by six seconds, and broadcast seven pips rather than six. This was traced to a proble...

Re: What's the SHORTEST Speccy game ever?
Perhaps the best metric isn't 3 minutes, or 5 minutes, but "can you complete it in less time than it took to load?" Additionally, Bugaboo has an intro sequence (over a minute) after loading, and at the start of each game you have to wait about 20 seconds for the flea to fall into the cave...

Re: Machine code comment syntax recommendations
- Dont make comments like "Decrease A register by one" . It's a useless comment. If you have a DEC A command then it's obvious. Haha, when I first started learning z80 my code was littered with comments like this, before I realised it was all totally useless  For writing z80 code, my...

Re: R-type question
Cool, love challenges like this - you'll have to give us some progress updates. 8-) I don't think I ever got very far, one of the issues is that you lose your power ups after dying, which makes it harder. I got pretty frustrated with it. Even with POKEs I think I only got to the big spaceship level ...
