Re: Games that were compiled from BASIC

It would be really interesting to note games that used compilers back in the day. The page for each native BASIC compiler contains a list of programs that were compiled with them: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/8249/ZX-Spectrum/HiSoft_BASIC https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/8254/ZX-Spect...

ZXDB has a tag for "Theme: Halloween" but it only contains a few titles:

Re: NEW PRESERVATION TOOLS

Some releases (utility programs, recent games, and especially NedoOS stuff) are constantly evolving/updating. Could the database automatically download their new versions from a given URL? Automatic downloads are tricky. Sometimes file links change on each new release (if version number is part of ...

Re: NEW PRESERVATION TOOLS

We have 333 remote links in ZXDB with a various structure. And yes some of them aren't ideal for related links. But what we need to define urgently is universal 'Home page' website for which we don't need any comment and ZXDB structure will stay unchanged. Now we have in ZXDB/SC dozens entries (and...

Re: A new data compressor called ZX0

84 hours in, with the last dot (....) under the space between "Einar" and "Saukas" it stopped with "Error: Insufficient Memory". Ouch! :( Based on this I don't think my first test would ever have worked as the 32-bit zx5.exe would unlikely be able to address more...

Re: Is there a list of loader types ?

There are a few loaders on there which I wrote and am happy to correct you with. Awesome! If you give me a list of loaders you authored, I would like to add this information to ZXDB! Who Dares Wins 2 was a Dollar$oft loader, as can be verfied if you load the TAP file into Textpad. There was nothing...

Re: Is there a list of loader types ?

Thankyou! That's just what I wanted. You are welcome! Is there any reason why you can only search for 7 different schemes on this site compared to the old WOS Infoseek which had 32+Custom ? Probably SC wanted to avoid a large drop-box, so it only shows the most common loaders. This is a site choice...

Re: A new data compressor called ZX0

Since I learned Kotlin to implement the ZX5 multi-thread compressor, why not do the same for ZX0? The multi-thread version of the ZX0 compressor is now available here: https://github.com/einar-saukas/ZX0-Kotlin You can download the compiled JAR file directly from here: https://github.com/einar-sauka...

Re: Is there a list of loader types ?

I exported a spreadsheet with all scheme loaders currently stored in ZXDB: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YlLvhqFRsCFPRR8PogTD_Mz4ZF6VTiY9-GfSGjMcW5c/edit?usp=sharing Normally SC doesn't show scheme loaders, but you can see them in "compact view". For instance Out Run Europa have ...

Re: A new data compressor called ZX0

Can the algorithm be made to use multiple threads? Sure. However memory management in current C implementation is based on reference counting, which would be inefficient across threads. This will require another language with GC and lightweight threads, preferably also resizeable hash tables. I wil...

Re: NEW PRESERVATION TOOLS

I agree that "downloads" is not a perfect solution. However moving these generic links to "related links" is not a perfect solution either. The problem is, links that don't fit on pre-established categories usually need a comment to explain what they are. However the tables that ...

Re: A new data compressor called ZX0

also zx0 (v1.5) is TO SLOW too on big files It's slower when there are lots of matches therefore more combinations to be analyzed. Fortunately it also means more opportunities for better compression. Don't you think that compressing from 65536 to 8 bytes was worth the wait? :) Even so, your times a...

Re: Clone Wars (Scramble): vote

Well to be honest it doesn't have a title and there is no release date as it was just done as a laugh for a competition. You could call it "Crap 256 byte Scramble" I suppose Don't you prefer to call it something else, for instance "Scram256" (as the name in your files)? It's def...
