Re: Did your parents ever play on your Speccy?

Mine were interested in it for about a week. It was everyone's first gaming experience after the arcade and crappy home pong systems. They saw horizons and the grand prix game chequered flag and seemed impressed. I think they tried magic carpet and glug glug, but soon after that couldn't be bothered...

Re: Mouse/key input loop for making Basic games

Looks like a cool game. How much ram does it take up?
I tried making something in Sinclair basic but couldn't deal with variables that were single letters only.

I tried six languages altogether and switched to machine code only in the end. As all the languages had fatal flaws.

How to get composite mod?

The zxhd is about £92 and I have no experience and no soldering tools.
Does anyone do composite modding through the post?

Ok sorry for the possibly obvious question:

The ear socket is for loading games,
is the mic socket for saving?

Re: What tape players will work?

I'll probably end up using something like for another purpose .but I've got a rubber keyed spectrum with no tape recorder

So I'm wondering if a walkman earphone/headphone socket will be good enough to load tapes to the spectrum?

What tape players will work?

I'm finding it a little difficult to obtain one of those 80's tape players.
Are there other things like stereos or walkmans that have the right sockets to load games?

yeah I played that on the ZXDS a bit. Very similar on a superficial level but gameplay differences are enough to warrant it being a different genre :santa :D

Re: Devfinitive Edition (Jullian Gollop): vote

I like Chaos but just prefer L.S. because it has scenarios. I used to play it a lot single and multiplayer. I didn't play chaos near as much. It was superseded by Lords of Chaos which whiled away many hours on multiplayer. The single player campaigns were somewhat lacking. I would also prefer rebels...

I'd go for manic because jsw is too hard and buggy.
In manic there is a better sense of progression.
The first level is great, challenging but doable.

Re: Secrets of Castle Madness - Grid based dungeon crawler

Yeah if people enter ASM commands as data statements they'd have to manage labels themselves, but I presume the OP is using an actual assembler. Seen as he is using a 128k computer. As in if someone uses the 48k spectrum itself they might have to actually enter memory addresses instead of label name...

Re: Spectrum interface to do programming?

That's pretty cool, just wondering what happens if the spectrum crashes.
Do you just reset it and the code is saved on sd?
How long does it take to get back into the ide?

Spectrum interface to do programming?

I know it would be pointless but... Would anyone buy a thing that plugged into the back of the spectrum that had rom and ram, which had a full featured assembler and text editor? (Nothing too crazy like including a scripting language, just simple macros maybe) The code would be saved in the device (...

Re: If the ZX Spectrum commercial era was still going...

Codemasters would release games that looked very similar to games released four years earlier by other companies. But at one fifth the price... and gameplay.
