Re: Which year did you get your first Spectrum?
Christmas Day 1983 - 48K rubber key'd. First game I played on it was Jetpac.
This year, when my Next arrives, I'm going to get the missus to wrap it up for me as a Christmas present. And the first game I'm going to play on it is Jetpac. Think it'll be a nice way to spend the 40th anniversary.

Re: Going to ZX Spectrum events back in the day
Unfortunately never went to one BITD - was a bit young for them I suppose and there was no chance in hell my parents would take me as they couldn't be arsed with anything outside of their own interests (there's a development here that I found out about very recently that I'm still quite bitter about...

Threw Weeks I always remember as the first game that got rid of colour clash (that I took notice of) to be replaced with transparency at the behest of a setting. I don't remember seeing it before then?

1. Three Weeks 2. Stainless Steel 3. Smash TV Three Weeks I completed the day after I got it (i.e. day after release). I accidentally found the infinite lives cheat (SS, D and P when Wally's knocked down) when I mashed the keyboard in frustration. Completing it was pretty much a doddle after that. I...

Re: Games with huge maps?
Just done a quick database query on the Crash reviews which sometimes had a "Screens" value. Some that I don't think have been mentioned yet with 256+: Molecule Man; Project Future; Wizard's Lair; Labyrinthion; Covenant; Noah: 256 Avenger (Gremlin); Con-Quest: 300 On The Run; Head Over Hee...

1. Academy - a masterpiece. Never played Tau Ceti (if you're wondering why it's not below). 2. Invincible Island - the second text adventure I ever played (after The Hobbit) and a decent one even if it is written in BASIC. 3. Earthlight - the only other Pete Cooke game I've played (well Micronaut On...

That's the Spirit?
Edit: Nope, that's definitely set entirely in new York. So it's not Ghostbusters either.

Even though I'm certain it isn't I'm going to take a punt at it purely based on the cyan and blue used like they are:

Splitting Images for me. I think it's one of the best 8-bit games ever made and by a mile the Speccy's best puzzler.

Re: Using A.I to recreate ZX Spectrum loading screens.
Both correct - Jetpac and IK+.
Jetpac would have been better if Jetman was facing the other way like the loading screen. I did specify him facing left but the MS AI is a bit thick

Re: Idea for a new voting series...
I think a game of the retro month is a great idea. Pete does highlight the date problem well though. How about just grabbing the unique titles from the three main mags per month and presenting those? If a particular title was reviewed earlier by one of the mags then simply exclude it as it's already...
