Re: ULA+ palette question
Ewww, your Dizzy screenshot looks like a shoddy Speccy port on the CPC  Yes, it appears the games he showed after he got his ZX-HD are all AGD games. But he got it only a few months ago, the vast majority in his playlist was made using an original 48k Speccy that broke eventually, triggering hi...

Re: ULA+ palette question
Thanks for all the responses. So what I gather from this is, these old games where the authors didn't intend any ULA+ palette so didn't define one, the AGD game just initializes one. I'm still wondering where these specific colours are coming from, like if they are the default ULA+ palette values fo...

ULA+ palette question
I wasn't really sure what section to post this in, so it goes in here. Disclaimer: I don't use ULA+ myself. Let me explain the "issue". There's a German guy on YouTube who occasionally uploads videos of himself playing Speccy games, which already is remarkable in itself because this an inc...

Re: New forum game -- Spectrum graphics in the real world?
I recently came across this sticker on a metal pillar. Sadly it has weathered badly, there is text on it you can barely see ("The Blast from the past" and some smaller bits I can't decipher as the sticker is too much out of focus).

Re: Anyone else hate zxspectrumgames4 ?
But that doesn't explain his weird choice to do his videos the way he does them. Why did he not just wait for 10 seconds for the jingle to finish, then pressed space and showed the main part like any sensible person would have done? This is ridiculous. Also, apparently has nearly 5000 videos of Chao...

Re: Anyone else hate zxspectrumgames4 ?
You know, sometimes I'd really like to be the literal "fly on the wall" in this guy's place. I'd love to watch him uploading all these videos, dozens every day it seems. I can only assume he somehow makes some money from it, I can't see why it otherwise would be worth his time.

Re: Anyone else hate zxspectrumgames4 ?
Oh God. I was looking for an old Speccy demo to listen to the music and found this video. It is 16:21 minutes long, but he stays on the title screen (that has no music apart from a very short jingle at the start) until the 16 minute mark , so you only get to see a short fraction of the actual demo. ...

Re: A question about advanced search
No worries, I can't really be bothered to register on there so I'll live with it. Thanks for your efforts. By the way, I entered this query into Google: "Alien 8" site:https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/forums/ It says "55 results" which seems to check out, but then it only lists 12...

Re: A question about advanced search
Thanks for the responses. I already had used the + for "must include" yesterday, but in the various searches I performed, they did not seem to make any difference. Example: target renegade = 368 matches +target +renegade = 368 matches flatduckrecords Interesting, since at the top of the re...

Re: A question about advanced search
Hello, I didn't want to create another thread for this, as it is also a question about the advanced search function, just an entirely different one as it is about the forum search. I was trying to find posts containing the game title "Alien 8", however I noticed that it seems impossible to...

Indeed. I sent Robert a message on Facebook with a link to this thread, but he has not responded yet.
I certainly remember seeing you too in some places like Bunnik and Houten. I was usually there with the late Wolfgang Haller of SPC.

Re: Some interesting images from Roelof Koning (NL)
Interesting photos, I remember Roelof Koning from a few Speccy meetings I attended in Germany and the Netherlands in the 90s. I have an idea who the third guy in the first photo may be ... actually found him on Facebook and asked him about it. Regarding the weird "Tanja letter" in German, ...

Re: Hypothetically... The Empire Strikes Back on the Spectrum
With all said and done (as you said "This may be the last of my screen mockups on this project"), the mock-up graphics look great in most parts - until they actually start moving. In the past, most Speccy games that had these kind of big/colourful graphics against a background came out in ...

Re: decolourizing games
Have I completely imagined this but was there a Speccy game that allowed you to either play it in colour or monochrome? I have this vague memory of such a title but at the same time I think I'm making it up. There is a well-known game by a well-known software house that gives you this option. No, r...

Re: decolourizing games
Well, I didn't write "making the whole game monochrome", did I? I meant colourful backgrounds, where sprites should take the colour of the background. The way it is in Skool Daze or Renegade. I also like the approach taken in games like Firelord or Rex, where most of the sprites and (spars...

Re: decolourizing games
The colour clash like it is shown in the Wally Week series is just horrible. A good amount of Spanish games suffer from this, too.
I find it much less offensive when the sprites take on the colours of the background instead.

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?
Well, it's going to be a little foray into off-topic territory, but since it was you who mentioned this Henning Wehn guy, I had to admit I don't know him. Not surprising, since according to a Wikipedia article I just had a look at, he's been UK-based for ages and only had limited fame in Germany on ...

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?
Cheers PeterJ ! Yep, this kind of thread is very likely to repeat itself if asked on a "biased" site where you have a majority opinion. My intention was never to cause possible flame wars - if so, I'd have an account on the cpcwiki forums (I don't) and have created the thread there. My mot...

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?
I thought for this question it was more like that everyone outside the UK, France, and Germany will have heard very little about the CPC. Hold on, I know for a fact the CPC was very popular in Spain. Undoubtedly way more popular than in Germany. Though I don't know what the share was. I'd assume a ...

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?
Hey Timmy, while anyone is of course free to post here, I think what I may have failed to communicate is the focus on the UK in this question. It's an overshight, I should have called the thread "Why did people in the UK ...", as the French guy has his focus on this when he asks why the pe...

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?
Yeah, don't worry berarma, I added that quote about the TV more as a joke, because this CPC guy worded it as if it was a 100% fact for every Speccy user and none had their own or a spare TV set ;) These kinds of topics will often turn into a "best computer" discussion, but it was not my in...

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?
They'd have been better off if they didn't try and saddle every customer with a monitor they simply didn't want, and certainly didn't want to pay for. I remember reading a comment by an Amstrad user along the lines of "while we were using our CPCs, a lot of Speccy/C64 users weren't , because d...
