Re: 'Engrish' messages

I wouldn't expect much "Engrish" in software coming from UK ;) But there is a lot of bad English in titles coming from elsewhere. Don't forget, these programs were often written by teenagers who only started to learn English. For example there is a quite good Dizzy fan game called "Ho...

Re: Neadeital by Matt Birch

i don't know anything for sure, but i believe that writing such engine from scratch will be faster and easier than disassembling one of the originals I agree. We must also remember that Tir Na Nog is an early game from 1984. It was very impressive for its time but still early games never used all p...

The main issue I have with the Dizzy games, is that they have Dizzy in them.
Could you say more? What do you have against Dizzy himself?

Wow!

It looks like Tir Na Nog 2 should look like if it was made.
Has the same climate but more colours, more backgrounds, more content and seems to have some actual story to follow
(while in Tirnanog you could wander aimlessly for hours).

Re: Hand-assembly in the time of cross-compilers

I remember he posted on WoS at some point. You mean a user called LuMan? https://worldofspectrum.org/forums/discussion/43098/assembler-v-machine-code It he and Twitter guy the same guy? Personally I was always negative about his approach. Yes, it's making your coding much harder, just like coding i...

Re: Blockheads

How much interest did you want to get before you thought it was worthwhile finishing? Yes, what did you expect ? An average new game for Spectrum when announced on forums gets today maybe 10 posts in the thread. Much more people (think 10x more, 20x more) will try it out but will say nothing. That'...

Maybe some of you will say it's not that bad. But let's check: - ugly colour clash, especially at the hand - faceless crowd - messed dithering on the barriers - and why is he running some narrow lane kicking a metal ball ? https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/SCRtoImage.php?SCR=pub/sinclair/screens/load/...

Great loading screen with bad title letters ;)
I'm not sure if letters made of big pixels were some artistic concept or just laziness but they don't look good (and could be adjusted in 5 minutes).

Some important but unfortunately also quite difficult games here. I recorded a lot of games myself but in many cases mentioned here I wouldn't just know what to do. I have plans to try N.E.X.U.S one day. Actually there exists a walkthrough for C64 so I could just try to copy it. https://www.youtube....

Re: Load'n'Run.... "Pirated" games?

Indeed! Giuseppe is putting much effort in his site. He's mainly a C64 user, but his interest evolved on other platforms and he's now hosting nearly everything ever published in Italy Yes, it' seems to be a great site with a lot of work put into it. I've just added it to my Spectrum bookmarks in my...

Prepare that it will be often down.

Seems like it uses technology that doesn't allow for any changes to be made while the site is running.
So any update requires pulling the plug.

Re: And you thought old Spectrum games were expensive .....

Things are worth as much as people are willing to pay for them ;) And these NES collectors are crazy.

Spectrum stuff is never going to reach such prices. I believe that even if a single copy of Mire Mare or
Great Giana Sisters appeared it wouldn't reach beyond £1000

Nice discovery!

By the way, I checked it and was really surprised that it's written in Basic and uses assembler probably only for displaying the graphics.
Yes, you can press break in it to see the code;)

Great to see joining the forces with Steve and TzxVault ! He and other guys did an incredible job of preserving missing software and uploading it to WOS when it was still ran by Martijn. If I could ask for a feature ;) I'd really love to have a search engine which displays several game screens in a row. Something that existed on old WOS and exists on sites like Lemon64: https://i.ibb.co/mDVhqZg/pic.png I often used to search through several hundreds of games to find something. It's ...

Some new info about new Dizzy game for Next:

The included graphics actually look like they are for standard Speccy however. But they are great anyway !

I'm too for a sticky post visible to anyone who enters the forums explaining all the story. We could discuss it here. This is a war that can't be won. Lee won't admit his wrongdoings. WOS won't be shut down and I believe we don't want it here. There will be always a small group of people who believe...

some are saying they don't care one bit and will just skip any Speccy game I'm somewhere inbetween here. Generally I'm interested in any retro computers. Re: Atari 8Bit Colour Pallette

This is the CTIA 128-colour palette. Without any further hacks you either get to use one row or one column of this palette at a time. I believe it's more complicated, they have also sprites and in many games sprite feels to have very different colours from the rest They also seem very often to use ...

Atari 8Bit is a very unique machine. Believe it or not but even today there are new graphic modes discovered for it  Yes, it doesn't have one or three or any fixed number of graphic modes. As I understand you define your graphic mode by writing some configuration in memory. Many of these conf...
