Re: How can we help with ZXDB?

Just to note to say that C.Born has withdrawn permission based on an argument that spawned from a thread that was deleted from Offtopic about online privacy. The admins are discussing what to do. Hmm, withdrawing permission does seem like an over-reaction. The permission to host his titles here doe...

Re: Eurostriker, a football game

As promised some months :D ago, here is the sequel to ZX striker now with a full career mode and very similar to the first striker, hope you enjoy. ;) I'm playing it in little bursts. That's an interesting take on football games. Is there any interactivity in the match screen where the ball goes lef...

Oh, that might eclipse CRL's Test Match as my most favourite Cricket game on the Spectrum :-)

Re: Amstrad CPC bundled with monitor

I think Amstrad's strategy back in the day was to simplify stuff, the so-called one-plug route. It certainly predicted how IBM-clones were sold later on -- buying the full package rather than just the beige box. When I started thinking about exploring the CPC last year, this bundling did make it a l...

Re: First game to have an animated loading screen?

If Manic Miner's loading screen is deemed to be "animated", then "Thru' the Wall" on the Horizons tape would predate it (The "Please Loading" animation). They both use FLASH attributes for their changes. There's no actual animation being done.

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with E: vote

Out of that list, I load up and play Elevator Action the most. I loved the arcade machine, and the Spectrum version is terrific. But, this is a best classic Speccy vote, so I'm down to Exolon and Elite, except, as much as I enjoyed Exolon back in the day, it's a bit plodding now, a bit sparse. Elite...

Re: What makes you continue your Spectrum interest?

I spent a lot of time reading and re-reading Sinclair User magazines, reading about the games, and having only a fraction of those titles available in South Africa. So great titles passed me by. Wanted lists unfulfilled. Most of my gaming came from Multiface 1 copies passed from friend-to-friend, so...

By the time he finally revealed ZXDB wouldn't be used (not even the same IDs), On the topic of IDs, is there any appetite to add a WoS ID field to the entries table in ZXDB? Initially it would be identical to the existing "ZXDB ID" field, but when Fogarty (or his team) then branches off a...

Re: Installing ZXDB on your local computer

You should be able to install either MySQL or MariaDB (which might be a better option) on Windows. It will run as a service on your Windows machine, and your SQL Client (SqlYog) should be able to connect to the server via localhost -- so no need for any physical network. Back when I was using Window...

One of the projects on my never-ending to-do list is to create a Wikipedia-like site about Spectrum games and the developers/publishers - citing resources. Since the explosion in interest in retro, and projects like the Spectrum Next pulling our game developers into the light, and people still inter...

Brataccas/Bandersnatch, Imagine, Denton Designs link cache

Just discovered this directory of archived pages: http://www.brataccas.com/arch/indexes/ Looks to be copies of web pages elsewhere (I recognise the Crash Online pages, Sinclair User Magazine Online pages and YSRnRy pages in there), and seems to cover the collapse of Imagine, the path of Bandersnatch...

As much as I love Target Renegade and would list it higher than Renegade in my all time favourites, Renegade is just a much better, tighter game, and tougher to complete. Renegade, like Flying Shark, is an improvement on the original arcade.

I'll ask the creator of the video if he is still in contact with Bo and if he'll allow SC to host Fairlight. Bo Jangeborg mentioned in the video, unfortunately, that he doesn't hold the rights to Fairlight, that's still Softek/The Edge (there's a part about Polish developers wanting to do Fairlight...

Torn between Batman: Caped Crusader and Bobby Bearing. I can't vote for Ritman's Batman because I know Head over Heels is significantly better. Bobby gets the nod, because it's not just isometric, but realtime physics in an isometric rendering: Curvispace.

I think Einar, again, has nailed it perfectly when it comes to genuine inclusivity. I hope this is just the low-hang...

Re: Fastest Divide by 6

Something from left-field: Since 6 is half-way between 8 and 4, the result of dividing by 6 should be halfway between dividing by 4 and 8. How about an algorithm like: * Divide the number by 4 (>>2) * Divide the number by 8 (>>3) * Add the two shifted results together * Divide this sum by 2 (>>1)
