Re: Licenses that could have been

Comics Watchmen - there's an open goal, although creator Alan Moore obviously was never keen on the story being recreated in any other medium than a comic book (I see his point). Ooh there's a good call. It might have been too close to a cult following to warrant a big release, and it would have be...

Re: Licenses that could have been

Towards the arse-end of the Speccy's life, there might have been some recognition of those global cheese merchants New Kids On The Block or Bros. Add Spice Girls to the lot and you'll have a true horror compilation! While they're certainly not in my play queue, I like the image they have, lik...

Licenses that could have been

Broadly speaking, the 1980s is the decade most associated with the Spectrum. And there's a lot of pop culture that converted over to our rubber-keyed platform. Rambo; Miami Vice; Ghostbusters and even Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Yet there were some highly viable contenders that, for some reason, neve...

Never came across a bug in Kikstart II, but that could be my memory cheating me. I liked how tolerant it was of my clearly batsh*t level creations.

CodeMasters - their best efforts

I remember a letter sent into Your Sinclair where a reader stated their computer had problems loading CodeMasters games. The editor's sardonic response was that their Spectrum had no problems loading them, and requested a swap. Towards the fag end of the ZX Spectrum's commercial life, there were far...

I'd say nearly all of them, like the 3D Game Maker.

Exceptions for text adventure ones like GAC, PAW and The Quill where pretty good stuff came out.

I've got this game creator program, now I'll make a fortune and get really famous. ... The Sam Coupe is the shot in the arm our scene needs, and it'll trounce all over the Amiga and Atari ST. ... Looking forward to Pac Land on the Speccy, if they can do alright with Wonderboy and Bubble Bobble, this...

Re: ZX-Spectrum-inspired comedy show in Birmingham, Wed 6th Dec

Does your standup have any retro stuff in it Pete? I've seen a youtube vid that didn't. I don't think I've ever touched upon retrogaming in my stand-up. Maybe a few asides when I've been a compere, none of which I can remember now, but, no. My natural stand-up centres around online pr0n and awful p...

Interesting game. Took ages to start up because of the weird hacker/greets intro thing and the fact that it tells you to press 'space' which breaks out to BASIC. I too gave it a blast. Actually trying to start the game was a game in itself. I didn't get the BASIC thing, but it took a while after re...

ZX-Spectrum-inspired comedy show in Birmingham, Wed 6th Dec

If you're near the city centre of Birmingham on the evening of Wednesday 6th December, you could pop into the Gunmaker's Arms for an hour-long comedy by retrogaming fan and comedian Laura Monmoth... https://tickets.edfringe.com/www-data/uploads/event/2017LGBTQZX_PY.jpg "Laura Monmoth had a prob...

The inevitable worst game ever thread

Inspired by Blucey mentioning LA SWAT , I guess it's time for the usual "what was the worst game you've ever played?" question. The aforementioned LA SWAT was a strong contender for the absolute worst when I had a Spectrum. My brother had bought it, and it was frankly a waste of the two qu...

Re: Spectrum games for latter Star Wars films ?

Incidentally, really impressed with 2016's Rogue One - a Star Wars film co-written by CU Amiga's Gary Whitta. Up there with the classic trilogy.

Can we phone up Domark and see if they can get round to converting it for the Speccy? Might have to be a very long multiload.

Rampage - the movie (yes, really)

I'm not making this up, there's even a trailer for it if you don't believe me . My jaw is still on the floor. It stars Dwayne Johnson (better known as The Rock to WWE audiences), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who played the Comedian in Watchmen and is very well known for being Negan in The Walking Dead)....

Interview with skeleton #2 from Curse Of Sherwood

Originally published at That Other Place in July 2014. Good evening and welcome to my interview with an unsung hero, or should I say, villain from the ZX Spectrum scene. For Mastertronic - Curse Of Sherwood and Feud were by John Smyth at Words And Pictures. In fact, he did all the cartoon-like inlays for that label and its imprints. Mark Brady (also Words And Pictures) was the artist who did science-fiction style covers. It seems there were other artists from Words ...

Re: Spectrum games for latter Star Wars films ?

I recently rewatched Phantom Menace and it was even more diabolically bad than the first time round*. 95% of it is a council meeting. Yes, the pod racing scene is utterly fantastic and I'm sure the official game at the time used this bit as the basis. The rest of the film could be represented on the...

I actually liked Death Wish III despite the movie being a complete waste of celluloid. Here is my review from Spectrum 2.0: Paul Kersey - a name which is synonymous with bad luck, judging by what happens to anyone who is closely associated to him - in the third instalment of its saga, has agreed to...

Which coin-op game should have been on the Speccy?

...but wasn't, and - here's the clincher - feasibly could have been? I'll kick off with a couple... The Simpsons This pretty much used the same game engine as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, if I'm not mistaken, and that game was not too bad on the Speccy. This was a lot more fun in my opinion... http...
