Re: Definitive list of games incompatible with +2A/+3 and of compatible versions (if any)

Sly Spy Secret Agent (Hit Squad release) crashes on completion of loading the 128k side using a +2A's Tape Loader option. 48k version on the other side works fine. I tried the 128k version again by going into 128k basic, entering USR 0. 128k side loads fine, and I'm at the menu along with 128k music...

Re: Definitive list of games incompatible with +2A/+3 and of compatible versions (if any)

It’s likely the malformed TZX file. There are a few floating around that prose problems loading on real hardware. Incidentally, M.A.S.K. is one of them. This is loading the original cassette. I know for sure the original Gremlin cassette fails on the +2A, and worked okay with a Sony TCM 939 cassett...

Re: Definitive list of games incompatible with +2A/+3 and of compatible versions (if any)

I'm having a problem getting Gremlin's M.A.S.K to load on a +2A Spectrum. Today I've tried the Byte-Back version which looks to use the same loader as the original Gremlin release. It's the green & black stripey loader, where the loading screen loads line by line from the bottom upwards. The Byt...

Re: Definitive list of games incompatible with +2A/+3 and of compatible versions (if any)

Two recent games for me that don't seem to work on a +2A, but worked fine on a 128k: Bedlam Original GO! release: Game loads, but noticeable graphics corruption on the menu, and crashes when starting a new game. I haven't tried the Sinclair User cover-tape version. Guerilla War Original Imagine rele...

Re: New Upload & Edit Facility

Ok, first question. If I want to remove a game from a group, for example, I want to remove https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/index.php?cat=96&id=2778 from "vector graphics" group, how I must proceed? Seems to me that a "no group" option should be present at the top? Or a check...

I added four files - TAP+TZX+2xSCR, but only the last one was uploaded I guess. ;)
Thanks for the bug report. I'll look into it. Not sure what's causing that yet.

druellan wrote: Sun Nov 11, 2018 2:01 pm Another thing. Seems that it is required to upload a file, even when you're only editing an entry.
That's what Rorthron reported earlier too, and should now be fixed.

Hi Rorthron, thanks for the feedback. 1. I can't upload amendments to existing entries without attaching a file. The following error messages appear at the bottom of the form: Notice: Undefined index: fileExt in /var/www/zxdb-edit/src/ZxdbEdit/EntryForm.php on line 301 Notice: Undefined index: fileE...

Re: ZX Vega+ Discussion

I've just received notification via Companies house email alerts that Paul Andrews and Chris Smith are now directors again at RCL. That is remarkable. There's a lead-time before records at Companies House are updated, so this happened at least a few days ago. This is the first mention I've seen of ...

Re: ZX Vega+ Discussion

I stopped following this saga a long time ago, so I'm not sure why my games aren't on the list as I gave permission years ago and never retracted it. Seeing the finished product I should be thankful... I never retracted my permissions either. On the contrary, I actually spent time over a year ago c...

I'm astonished not a single vote for Midnight Resistance. That's how utterly dominant Manic Miner is in our circles.

Re: [insert game name here] would have been great if only you could....

Slapfight would have been great if you could only see the bullets, and the ground wasn't as busy. Oh yeah, Operation Thunderbolt would have been great if you could only have crosshairs. Wizball would have been great if only you could have that control power-up enabled by default instead of bouncing ...

And if you like Forest of the Long Shadows, the following are also done by Martin Page and in a similar vein:
  • Portals of P'Thaal
  • Goblin Mountain
And maybe also "The Seven Parchments of Kandos"

The Sinclair User megatape 8 version of Players' Deviants has the in-game mini game as the game loads too. Just pressing keys until all the power cylinders are diasabled.

Robocop - Chart longevity vs piracy

Ocean's Robocop reviewed in January 1989 hit the charts at number one in March 1989 magazine issues and stayed in the top ten until February 1991 (dates according to Sinclair User issues). That's 23 months in the charts, covering two Christmas periods. It's amazing how this title stayed near the top...

Re: 3D Chess 2K18

Also, I think the Kings and Queens are swapped in the above image. The king for either colour is the piece with a + at the top. The pieces on c4 and c7 look like the kings, but they are supposed to be the queens (which are sitting on g1 and g8, where the kings should be).

Re: ZX Vega+ Discussion

Sir Clive is no longer a director of RCL. Poor health has been given as the reason. There's some misdirection going on in RCL's statement. Sir Clive never was a Director or Shareholder of RCL. The Companies House records show that it's Sinclair Research Ltd as the Shareholder (https://beta.companie...

I guess the answer lies in: Are there any adventure solutions that rely on something in the graphics and not in the text? That would be the only time a text adventure would need graphics.

Re: Clive Sinclair: hero or zero?

Sir Clive is the face of Sinclair Research and the Sinclair Spectrum. Just like Steve Jobs was the face of Apple, the Macintosh, the Macbook, the iPhone. I can probably name a few people on the original Apple Macintosh team, just as we can name the team that created the BBC Micro (right?). Though, t...

The first Martech game I bought was Nigel Mansell's Grand Prix, I did enjoy that, well, I learned the Brazilian F1 track quite well. BITD I wished I could have bought Catch 23, that looked amazing. Well, this post taught me something new, I didn't know Screen 7 was Martech -- I've discovered High St...
