Re: Notable 'Construction Kit' games

I also enjoyed Championship Sprint. I think that very naughty boy’s Steel Yard Blues had an editor if I remember correctly and that made it great fun as it was quite similar to Manic Miner and I always wanted to be able to make my own Manic Miner type of game. The only other I remember using was Big...

Re: Classic Vs Homebrew

I play more new titles than old, but I rarely visit old titles that I've never played before. For example I've never played Stonkers, Lords of Midnight, The Sentinel or other noteworthy stuff and despite all the chatter about them I've never thought about playing them now. Typically the old games I ...

I tried to be different, came up with two approaches, both more bytes than R-Tape's original and gave up.

Make them playable

Hi Not sure if this is already on the to-do list, or is already implemented (and I just haven't spotted it), or has already been suggested; but when a game tape image or snapshot is present in the archive can there be a link/option to launch it inside an embedded emulator? Something like the QAOP wo...

Re: Recreated ZX Spectrum

Assuming by "basic mode" you mean the standard PC keyboard mode, yes, it's redundant IMHO. Much as we all love our 40 rubber keys, it's not really an adequate keyboard for a modern PC. Mine sits connected to the PC via USB cable, permanently in the, er, "other" mode which works ...

Re: Recreated ZX Spectrum

The main issue however is that the keyboard doesn't really function when used in basic mode, the key commands don't match up and so it's no use as a fully fledged Spectrum, games tend to be fine however. I'm not sure what you mean by "basic mode". Flick the switch on the back of the RZXS ...

I went with Hunchback because it is seems to be the only one I played of that lot. I thought it was crap though, Jet Set Willy's battlement series of screens were waaaay better.

Re: Should every new game be released with an infy lives option?

What about Treasure Island Dizzy? That only had 1 life. They got that spot on in my opinion.

I don't like it when games don't give you the final life, ie life 0. Starting the game with three lives should mean you get 4 lives. That is criminally poor form.

Recreated ZX Spectrum

Hi, fairly well known that these are doing the rounds at the moment for not much money, I bought one from Game for 24.99 on Thursday and it came today. https://www.game.co.uk/en/the-recreated-sinclair-zx-spectrum-2050251 I had forgotten how crap rubber keyed speccies are and this feels totally authe...

Re: Forum ranks poll

The most valuable part of a rank is to implicitly or explicitly define a sorting/order/sequence. <...> Not necessarily. To begin with, it's a derivative of the post count, which is visible on its own. So you might want to keep it at that, or you might regard it more as something else and less relat...

Re: Podcasts featuring those behind the scenes in the Spectrum era

I recall it was a very entertaining listen and certainly brightened up a laborious trip to the galactic core in Elite Dangerous earlier this year. Is it Simon Butler who had a few choice words to say about Joffa's performance at that retro event several years back?

Re: Feud by Bulldog (Mastertronic)

The creepy dude in the herb garden in Feud used to scare the bejeezus out of me for some reason, but I'd love venturing in there to try and get as many ingredients from there as possible. It is a great game (one of the best budget titles on the Speecy without a doubt) that I think would be greater s...

Re: Forum Ranks

For those wondering why they have 'Berk' under their username, it's because we quickly set the forum ranks to the first Spectrum characters that popped into our heads. It then goes onto Dizzy, Manic Miner and others, but doesn't mean much as there is no obvious gradation. If anyone has any good ide...

Re: The first game you bought

The first Speccy game I bought for our ZX Spectrum was Dizzy. I lived off budget titles for the next few years as the measly pocket money I had didn't go very far. In fact the only full price title I bought for the the system was 720 Degrees.

Mr-Tape, when would be the (none-extended) cut off for submissions? If I have enough time I fancy creating something small with the Crap Games Designer.
