Re: It´s a Goal
The only soccer game on the Spectrum that I enjoyed was ZX Striker, even though it only consisted of a series of free kicks. Everything else, except football manager, was just a painful experience... It´s a Goal has some fine touches, but ball control is quite difficult, which can be really frustrat...

Re: Spectrum ROMs compatibility issues
Its clear from the beginning that we are discussing compatibility issues on a very small number of examples, under certain conditions. So, general conlusions are rather pointless. Recently, I tested various custom ROMs and wanted to know how much these changes affect compatibility. I leraned some in...

Re: A Yankee in Iraq, a 50 fps SHMUP
I recently played the game again on the zx-uno and I can only say that it is excellent!
At the same time, it was very useful for testing different Spectrum cores, which will help us to improve their accuracy.

Re: Spectrum ROMs compatibility issues
Thanks for a lot of useful information. We allready know, that some games (Rasputin) require an issue 2 keyboard to work. I'm curious, if there are the opposite cases, where a game requires an issue 3 keyboard and refuses to work on older boards ? Also, heres additional information regarding the det...

Re: Spectrum ROMs compatibility issues
Rasputin (48K): the Softlock loader decrypts data against the ROM, so will only work on the original 48K machine. This is a very strange game. Apart from the ROM check, the game works properly only with the issue 2 keyboard. Otherwise, the sound is messed up and the game crashes on start. It would ...

Re: Spectrum ROMs compatibility issues
I know there is a fix for many problematic games, but that was not my question.
I wanted to know which ones check the ROM and how they behave if differ from the original Sinclair ones.

Spectrum ROMs compatibility issues
A long time ago, when Amstrad released its first Spectrum +2, I read somewhere that a changed welcome message could cause a compatibility problem with some earlier software. Is this true and is there any example of Spectrum software that checks if ROM contains the exact message "1982 Sinclair R...

the.beginner Really like this thread. :) Please keep us updated with your emulator development. They may not all be active right now, but if you're lookin...

Re: Elite - Joystick Club version not working on real hardware
This is the version I used on my 48k Spectrum, back in the day and I’ve never had a single issue with it.
Lenslok protection was removed, I played it to exhaustion during the summer of 1986.

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.2
Thanks for the reply :) As for Sinclairian I changed the the GPIO settings in zxscanner.py to match the Zxbaremulator so i could swap sd cards in each machine i have, so it should work in the new PCB but retro shack has changed the PCB to the new PI zero 2 (cheaper). That's not a problem, pi zero 2...

Fuse, as a highly accurate emulator, gi...

Re: The best Speccy game by MirrorSoft: discussion
Dynamite Dan II is by far the best MIrrorsoft game and one of the best Spectrum games ever. Amazing programming acheivement, graphics, sound, playbility, everything...and on top of that the mysterious lack of a final location in the Blitzen Lab. One of the few Spectrum games I can always play and ne...

Re: PlayTZX
Now there's something I hadn't thought of. By and large I've completely ignored the PZX format because I see very little need for it. But still, if it works... Does a pipe work in DOS or is that Unix-only? Well, I thought the same, until I saw how useful it is to load original tape images, with var...

Re: how far can the graphics go.
Even the best ATM2/ZX-Evo games, blow away Next exclusive titles. I expected a lot from Wonderfull Dizzy, but he didn't show up either. But, regardless of the graphics, my main problem is that these games don't have any Spectrum look&feel. If I want to play games like that, there are tons of the...
