Re: Little bugs in the database 5

The author of the game Senku, published in Microhobby, is not from Spain, but Uruguay:

Re: Gryzor disk release?

North And South is, and has always been, compatible with the +2A+3. The +3 disk version actually contains more features: a custom font and the train chase scene. On the other hand, Frank Bruno's Boxing was not. There is even a cure for it on my website. Scooby Doo is actually compatible with the +2...

By the way, and going back a bit to the "not totally correct statements made back in the day" :) see this?: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/zxdb/sinclair/entries/0004365/Scooby-Doo(Encore).jpg Guess who has been playing it in his +2A today... yes :D and flawlessly. Also, I remember North a...

Re: The best Speccy game by Bob Smith: discussion

This is going to be a tough one, because Bob has really good games, one of the best authors of the Homebrew era. We are missing your games, Bob! Come back soon! (We are really looking forward to Melkhiors 8) ). As for the already available games from Bob, not only they are good, but they are also qu...

Re: Gryzor disk release?

There isn't such a thing as "a +3" though. There are early ones with Z70830 boards, ones with Z70833 boards like the +2A. In 1989, New Computer Express refers to version 4.0 and 4.1 +3's that still have the sound bug, so presumably there are also versions 1, 2 and 3 before that. Does Spec...

Re: Gryzor disk release?

Yes. I don’t mean to sound rude but we could also read. The 128k version loaded fine on my grey +2 but I remember it not working on my friends +3. A different friend later bought the budget version and that worked on his +2A. I’m guessing that the initial release was withdrawn quickly. Then, I am m...

Swainy wrote: Wed Feb 15, 2023 2:34 pm No. We knew the difference between loading a game in 48k mode and 128k modes.
No, there were 2 versions of the game, I don´t mean loading the game on 48 or 128K. On the original release, the A side had the 48k version of the game. The B side has the 128K version.

Re: Gryzor disk release?

The very first release didn’t work with the +3. I had the tape version for my grey +2, it wouldn’t load on my mates +3. Or it crashed pretty early on. Pretty sure that Renegade had a similar issue in that the in game music wouldn’t play. That is probably because you were trying to load the 48K vers...

Re: Gryzor disk release?

Unless you have the exact machines, in the exact setup that Ocean were using at the time then you can't assert any such thing. Do you have another explanation for sticking "incompatible with the Spectrum +3" labels on thousands of copies of Gryzor, and not Match Day II, Tai Pan or Combat ...

Again, if the game is compatible with the +2A, then it is compatible too with the +3.

Re: Gryzor disk release?

The Erbe release is apparently different to the original and drops @MarkRJones1970 from the credits. https://contrapedia.wordpress.com/contra-conversions-spectrum/#VARIANTS Well, I just fired up the Ocean original release, in the emulator, with a 128+2A model selected, and the 128k version works fl...

Re: Gryzor disk release?

Interesting. Is that a copy that had the sticker on it? Or is it possible there were multiple versions floating around? It was the Erbe release, which seems to be the same one Ocean released. I just read in Alessandro list of +2A incompatible games, that only the 48K version won´t load in a +2A. Th...

Re: Gryzor disk release?

The +2A didn't exist when Gryzor was originally released. The +3 had only been out for a couple of months. But they are actually the same thing, internally, I mean. If it did not work for the +3 it means that it would not work for the plus 2A. Since it did work on the +2A it means that the sticker ...

Re: Gryzor disk release?

The original release of Gryzor had a sticker saying it wasn't +3 compatible so any disk version would have to have been released later. That would mean it was unlikely to have been stocked in shops as a new release so it would have sold even less than most +3 releases. The disk version was advertis...
